Landing on an apparently devastated planet, the Doctor and Romana make a horrifying discovery. The planet is Skaro, home-world of the Daleks. The Daleks are excavating in order to find and revive Davros, the scientific genius who first created them. They hope that he will give them the scientific superiority to break the deadlock with their Movellan enemies. Faced once more with the deadly and seemingly indestructible Daleks, the Doctor's wits and strength are stretched to their very limits.

Suitably processed, spectrox is an elixir of life, but in its raw state it is a deadly poison - a fact which will cost the Doctor another of his Time Lord lives....

When the TARDIS materialises on Earth in the year 2084, the Doctor meets an old enemy - the Sea Devils. Once the masters of this planet, they are now forced to live in the murky depths of the sea. But their intention is to reclaim their position of domination. The Sea Devils' associates in this dastardly plan to attack humanity's defences are the Silurians, also known to the Doctor of old.

The huge, octopus-like Kroll lives deep in the swamps of the humid, steamy planet Delta Three. To the native swamp-warriors, Kroll is an angry mythical god. To the money-grabbing alien technicians, it is a threat to their profit-making scheme. When the Doctor and Romana arrive, in search of another segment of the Key to Time, they have to face the suspicion of the lagoon dwellers, the stupidity of the technicians and, finally, the power of Kroll itself.

The Doctor and Sarah arrive safely back on Earth—or do they? Why does the mysterious solder march straight over a cliff, and then reappear unharmed? The TARDIS lands in a primeval forest, and the Doctor meets Leela, a warrior banished from her tribe. He learns that an ongoing war between the Sevateem and the Tesh was instigated by Xoanon, the god they both worship. In reality, an all-powerful computer, Xoanon, is possessed by a desperate madness directly related to the Doctor - one which only the Time Lord can rectify! In order to do battle with Xoanon, the Doctor must escape, not only from the savage practices of the Sevateem but also from the mind-controlling impulses of the Tesh.

In Daleks: The Chase the First Doctor and his friends must flee from the path of a Dalek execution squad.
