When food poisoning sweeps through Dallas, Patrick Laycal doesn't expect a princess to show up at his door asking for his help. Her one, simple request dumps him in the middle of a royal mess—one that could cost him far more than just his life.

Moving into a rundown Victorian house with a vampire living in the basement isn’t as bad as I thought, but things go from weird to weirder when a badly injured gnome collapses in my back yard. The surprising part? It’s my friend Nin’s long-lost grandfather. Since he’s unconscious, we can’t figure out who’s chasing him or where he’s been all these years, but if we can’t help him, he’ll die. To make matters worse, there’s a new dragon in town. A female dragon.

I've been betrayed. I spent years hiding my magic from the world, but now I've got new powers I can't control. Everyone around me is at risk, and if my secret is revealed, I'll be hunted. But I don't have time to worry about the monster I might become. Someone has stolen a dangerous artifact that could turn my world upside down. It could get me and my friends killed and bring destruction down on my city.

The Carnival of Light didn't exactly go the way the ECU had imagined. We ended up putting the best show in the world for them. Hiding away in an abandoned monastery while all our enemies knew where we were sounded much better as an idea. Now that we were actually living there, all Storm witches who'd come to meet us at the carnival, it was a whole other story. We'd gotten every person on the ECU hit-list under one roof, and we had no means to protect them. Yet. Finding the Spellmaker kid is our top priority. Without spells, we don't have much hope to make our place in the world.

Who would have thought that I, Scarlet Jones, the first ever Storm witch of the world, would one day work for the ECU? I sure as hell didn't, but here we are. When Jane Dunham came to the monastery to look for her sister Elisa, she had a parting gift for us: a horde of demons who came into our home and killed without mercy. It put an end to our illusion of safety pretty quickly.

Erick Adams, the devil incarnate and a leader of our people, had the key that could have put an end to the world's misery long ago - right until I stole it from him. Maddox Wilder is the only one from my former team willing to stick with me until we did the only thing we could do - get our freedom back. My best friend Elisa finally came back to me, too, and the three of us are out to do the impossible: bring Erick Adams down in front of the whole world.
