Abridged and retold in modern English by respected children's authors, this collection of sixteen classic stories makes them accessible to listeners as young as six, while retaining all the charm, atmosphere, and sense of adventure that made the original tales world-famous.

Deep in the Black Forest lives a boy named Hans. He spends his summers gathering wood each season with his father for the coming winters in Germany. He learns of many folk tales about the forest while growing up. One always stood out in his mind, "The Trees with No Leaves". On Hans' 18th birthday, his father suddenly becomes very ill, leaving Hans to collect wood for the summer alone with his horse, Steel Gray. An ordinary summer day in the forest is quickly changed with a terrible storm.
