In "Mr. and Mrs. Dove", masterfully written by Katherine Mansfield, a simple marriage proposal becomes a delicate psychological dance of fear, pride, and unspoken longing. He beat me down with his barrage of caustic words and his superior argumentative techniques. And he loved it. Sometimes I’d fall at his feet, prostrate in absolute abject defeat just to get him to stop yelling at me. I’m not even sure whether I was being sarcastic or authentic in my show of submission. In those moments, he would ball up his fists in silent fury - and walk away. That is when I began to wonder when he would hit me.

follow Robert Salesby, a man who has carefully set aside his own desires in order to care for his fragile, demanding wife. In a quiet European hotel meant for rest and recovery, daily routines unfold with delicate precision—meals, walks, silences—each masking an undercurrent of exhaustion and unspoken resentment. As Robert moves through his days with practiced patience, the strain of self-denial begins to surface, revealing the quiet cost of love built on sacrifice alone.
