In the late‑Victorian Edgeworth household, everything appears orderly: a prosperous country house, an upright master, a dutiful wife and well‑brought‑up children. Behind the decorum, Duncan Edgeworth rules by sarcasm and command, his quiet tyranny shaping every conversation. When illness, death and a hasty remarriage bring beautiful young Alison into the house, buried rivalries flare–over love, money and who will inherit. As secrets multiply and alliances shift, even the nursery becomes a battleground…

Think you speak English? Think again. If you've ever been told "I'm fine" when someone clearly wasn't, wondered why "You alright?" isn't actually a question, or been completely baffled by phrases like "taking the piss," "Bob's your uncle," or "pack it in," this book is your hilarious guide to decoding British English. Stop Taking the Piss explores over 100 of Britain's most confusing words, sayings, expressions, mannerisms, and social habits, revealing what people really mean—not just what they say.

Sinners and saints must be equally vigilant… Rumor has it the all-female metal band Suck-U-Bus made a pact with a sex demon in exchange for fame. But that’s probably just clever marketing, right? Lisa thought so—until her brother scored a backstage pass. After the show, a strange woman warns them that the band’s succubus has marked Danny for more than just pleasure.

Dame Ivy Compton-Burnett (1884-1969) was an English novelist who was a bestseller in the mid-20th century. She published eighteen highly acclaimed works of fiction in her lifetime, inspired by her own tragic experiences of family life. Her works consist mainly of dialogue and focus on family life among the late Victorian or Edwardian upper middle class. They deal with money, power, status, incest, adultery, murder, homosexuality – about which she was years ahead of her time – and all the passions and stresses of family life, described with brilliant wit and perception.

Fans of New York Times best seller The Nanny Diaries will rejoice in this wickedly hilarious novel, which acclaimed author Katharine Weber says is "much funnier and darker". Optioned for a major motion picture starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, The Ivy Chronicles skewers the twisted priorities of America's well-heeled elite.

Here’s what I know. Being a cupid is hard work. Love Matches, Lust Breath, Flirt Touches, not to mention having to meet my quotas every month. And hitting your target with arrows? That shit is not easy. But all of that I could handle. Gladly. If only my cupid powers would actually work. The clock is ticking, but I have the perfect candidate to start with. Warren Knight. Smart, hot as hell, rich, bachelor-dud extraordinaire. Of course, the asshole doesn’t want to fall in love, so I have my work cut out for me.

Humiliated, dumped, and fired; this has been Ivy Efferson’s week so far. With only six weeks until their wedding, fiancé, Will has called things off. With no partner, job, or home, Ivy is desperate to escape her shame and break free from her disapproving mother and perfect sister. Leaving Edinburgh behind, she heads for Richmond. The leafy, Surrey suburb has always been her source of comfort and solace; Granddad’s jasmine scented garden, soothing walks by the riverside and the chance to rediscover her passion for art.

Ivy Edwards is 31 years old, funny, shameless and a bit of a romantic. She's also currently trying not to cry in the office toilet. Partly because she's just run out of money for fags. A bit because her mum continues to annoy her. Definitely not because she's just been dumped by her fiancé. With her London life in shambles and her family miles away in the Welsh valleys, Ivy doesn't actually feel like she belongs anywhere.

My newest therapy client is the definition of a DILF. His distractingly handsome face is all to blame for my mess-up. If that wasn't bad enough, now I'm practically stalking the murderous golden retriever. Can he even hear me arguing for pottery classes over the electric carver? Oh, it's a bone saw? My mistake.

Can a high-stepping star of the London stage find happiness as the wife of a dignified college president? Find out when you visit The Halls of Ivy! Ronald Colman and Benita Hume star in this gently comic tale of academic life, where the kindly President Hall of Ivy College and the witty Mrs. Hall find themselves embroiled in the troubles and travails of their students, their staff, and - every now and then - themselves. Here are 16 delightful episodes of this erudite 1950s classic, bridging comedy and drama with the utmost class.

The Halls of Ivy presents real-life husband and wife Ronald Colman and Benita Hume as the first couple of Ivy College: William Toddhunter (“Toddy”) Hall and his wife, Victoria (“Vicky”) Cromwell Hall, a former actress of the British comedy stage. Although President Hall is an erudite and polished professor, he is completely unpretentious and truly concerned for the well-being of the students and faculty. Vicky - who is always at his side, and on his side - keeps her husband in check with her playful and down-to-earth ways.

Created by Don Quinn, the co-creator of Fibber McGee & Molly, The Halls of Ivy was a situation comedy series that ran on NBC radio from 1950 through 1952. Originally slated to star Gale Gordan and Edna Best, the lead roles went to British husband-and-wife actors Ronald and Benita Colman. The Colman’s were well versed at comedy and already a hit with radio fans having played Jack Benny’s next-door-neighbor on The Jack Benny Program for years. Ronald Colman played William Todhunter Hall, the urbane president of small, rural Ivy College.
