Wherever I am, I'm the biggest guy in the room. People don't just gawk when they see me. They keep their distance, which is fine by me. Why do you think I bought a fixer-upper in the country? I don't mind the manual labor, just like I don't mind the solitude. I've got my own business and projects, and no room for anything—or anyone—else. That is, until an angel shows up on my doorstep, clutching a month-old advert touting a room for rent in my house.

She was my college sweetheart. The one that got away. Now she’s back—in my office, looking like sunshine in yoga pants, and asking for my legal help. She’s back, and she brought her two daughters, who are convinced the Maine Coon cat forced upon me is some kind of Disney sidekick. (He’s not. He’s Satan with whiskers.) I’m a grumpy over-forty lawyer who lives by rules and craves routine. Jess is chaos and coconut-scented optimism. Every time she smiles, I’m twenty again—and falling harder than ever.

Tory leaves town and asks them to watch over the rebellious Reds. But they have other plans. When love is in the air, there is nothing a teenager wouldn't do. And there is nothing a dad wouldn't do to keep them safe. Even if it involves a Johnson Beaver concert, a magical djinn, and a herd of centaurs.
