The Langston Virus didn’t discriminate against who it killed. Neither did the madness that followed. The few that survived, both the virus and the lawlessness that ensued, began the arduous task of rebuilding. Ninety years later, their descendants still have many obstacles. The newly rebuilt communities work hard to provide food, shelter, medicines, and peace to each citizen.

Ninety years ago, humanity was destroyed by a man-made virus. A select few were given a chance to live, but their only chance of survival would be in an elaborate underground compound - Terra Convex. Although they survived the deadly virus and the madness that followed, they were forced to live a life of oppression. Stripped of their freedoms. Their choices robbed from them, those inside Terra Convex learned to adapt. The survivors were content just to be alive and to have Leadership provide for them. Amelia, a 16-year-old with a rebellious spirit, wasn't like everyone else though.

Even in the fortress of the night watch there is no safety to be found. An indomitable power is stirring, and it has set its awful gaze upon the young Warden, Lillin. Where can she run when the world is crumbling beneath her feet, and the ones chasing her are far more powerful than she can ever hope to be? The struggle might be hopeless, but Lillin is a Warden of Will, and she will not be beaten down. Even if she must march headlong into the abyss, she will do as she must to gain the strength she needs to win.

Becoming a warden was an almost insurmountable task that pushed Lillin down a dark and winding path, but all of her training did little enough to prepare her for what was to come from beyond the walls of Black Mark. An insidious force moves, taking shape in the shadows and it rides on the winds of madness and misery. Lillin must struggle with her own lack of control over her abilities if she wishes to make a stand, but against such a terrible force, can anyone truly hold their ground?

The are few forces more powerful than the Will of a fully trained Warden, but those who endeavor to become Wardens must first escape the crucible fires of Black Mark Academy. Very few who enter will leave as Wardens, and many will never leave at all. Lillin ends up at Black Mark Academy not as a willing volunteer, but as forced penance for a past wrong. She soon discovers that the training involved in becoming a Warden is more nightmarish than she could have imagined. With her face marked permanently for her past crimes, she has to either survive the Warden's cruel training program or die in the process. She must discover the determination within herself to move forward and kindle the flames of the eternal fire, the Warden's Will.
