Ergebnis für "Soul" in Afrika

In 2017, Kurt Davis traveled to Africa and volunteered at many business accelerators and humanitarian nonprofits. Finding Soul, from Silicon Valley to Africa gives listeners a detailed description of not only what Africa is like, but also how the experiences changed and inspired him. Each chapter comes across like a vignette while developing the key themes in the book: experiencing deep empathy for others, releasing ego and identity, and discovering a deeper meaning for life.

For nearly 50 years Walter Eschenburg lived and worked as a pioneering wildlife vet in the South African bushveld with its many animals and a host of weird and wonderful people. After a childhood spent in a German castle during the Second World War, a harrowing escape from the Russian army, and a sequence of bold moves and fortunate circumstances, it is here that Walter comes into his own and develops into a seasoned vet. He encounters charging rhinos, tame buffalo, irate cows, and angry giraffes; he deals with snakes and warthogs, amorous elephants, cats, dogs, and donkeys.

He wanted to honor his ancestors. Unaware that hunger, sickness, and deprivation were awaiting him, a young idealist departs the United States and embarks on a spiritual quest to West Africa. Repeatedly challenged by a world beyond his understanding and thrown into harsh, critical self-reflections, he is repulsed by the image of himself that Africa forces him to confront.
