Sheetal Desai completed medical school at the University of Southern California (USC) followed by Internal Medicine residency and Rheumatology fellowship at UCLA. She pursued a Master of Science in Medical Education from the USC Rossier School of Education. She joined the University of California, Irvine (UCI) as rheumatology faculty in 2007. She was program director of the UCI Rheumatology Fellowship for 10 years, Chief of Rheumatology for 7 years and is currently Executive Vice Chair of Medicine. Her clinical interests are Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, collaboration across specialties to create Multidisciplinary clinics, and gender equity in medicine.

As an actress, dancer, and award-winning screenwriter, Linda shares the inspiration behind her new project, Edie (a story developed at the Sundance Collab) and her journey writing about her experiences with lupus.
For Linda, storytelling became a vital way to process the complex reality of being a woman whose body is her art, her work, and her battleground.

Diagnosed with lupus in 2008, she shares honest conversations around chronic illness, identity, faith, and rebuilding life through intentional planning. Through storytelling and guidance, Shedrica creates space for women living with lupus to feel seen, supported, and empowered to move forward at their own pace.

Season FIVE Episode FOUR of the Your Story Our Fight® podcast welcomes Vania and Alfredo Losoya. Vania Dzib is a dedicated educator, lupus warrior, and a passionate member of Lupus LA’s Patient Advocacy Panel. In the midst of the 2020 pandemic (a time defined by distance and uncertainty) she met her now-husband, Alfredo, through an online match. What started as a digital connection blossomed into a partnership built on mutual empathy, deep understanding, and shared resilience. Together, they’ve navigated the emotional and physical challenges of chronic illness, and join us to share how love can thrive - even in tough seasons.

Season FIVE Episode THREE of the Your Story Our Fight® podcast welcomes Rachel Carmen Ceasar. Rachel Carmen Ceasar is a medical anthropologist and public health researcher committed to helping people make informed health decisions rooted in science and evidence. She holds a PhD in Medical Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley, and currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, in the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences.Her research focuses on the use of cannabis across women’s lifespans, including during pregnancy and postpartum (at the Maternal Cannabis Lab). In addition to her academic work, Rachel is the founder of Culture of Health & Tech, a user experience research consultancy through which she advises health and technology organizations such as Centene, Kaiser Permanente, and Baxter. Rachel is also a lupus warrior and passionate advocate for reproductive health. She is the mother of a 7-year-old and, after experiencing four miscarriages, she turned to extensive research on the intersection of lupus and fertility. With the guidance of her rheumatologist, Dr. Leanna Wise, and the support of evidence-based care, Rachel welcomed a baby boy in 2024 — a journey that continues to inform her advocacy for reproductive health in the lupus community.

Sarina works within and for communities through ongoing community engagement programming initiatives through identifying community needs, capacities, & assets. She is committed to creating a better world, which is evident through her work of organizing initiatives, that foster genuine connections and promotes well-being for all. With her decades of experience in Community Development in supporting others in overcoming their own challenges she leaves a legacy of wellness by creating a more connected community.

Season FOUR Episode FIFTEEN of the Your Story Our Fight® podcast welcomes Chantelle Chandler. Chantelle is a resilient lupus warrior who has been navigating life with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), hypothyroidism, rheumatoid arthritis, and Raynaud's syndrome for over three decades. In addition to managing these autoimmune conditions, she has also lived with jugular deep vein thrombosis (DVT) for the past 28 years. Through it all, Chantelle continues to embody strength, perseverance, and advocacy for others living with chronic illness.
