• What Are You Still Pledging Allegiance To? (S2. Chapter 38)
    Jun 16 2026

What are you still pledging allegiance to?

In Chapter 38 of The Tao of Lloyd, Lloyd Dobler takes on American ritual: the Pledge of Allegiance, the anthem, the flyover, the moment of silence, the flag pin, the school assembly, and all the ceremonies we were taught to rehearse before we were old enough to ask what they meant.

Using Chapter 38 of the Tao Te Ching as the anchor, Lloyd asks what happens when the deeper thing is gone and only the performance remains.

A Zen-punk meditation on patriotism, performance, obedience, and the rituals that keep a country pretending it hasn’t lost the plot.

From the edge of empire and the center of self, this is The Tao of Lloyd.

  • America 250—America Throws Itself a Birthday Party (S2. Chapter 37)
    Jun 9 2026

America is turning 250, and Lloyd Dobler is not bringing a casserole.

In Chapter 37 of The Tao of Lloyd, America250 becomes the starting point for a darkly funny meditation on patriotism, propaganda, charity, silence, empire, and the difference between celebration and repair.

With Palantir, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, Coinbase — and somehow Cracker Barrel — helping sponsor the national birthday party, Lloyd asks whether America needs fireworks, or whether America needs five minutes of actual stillness.

This episode riffs on Chapter 37 of the Tao Te Ching, where the Tao “never does anything, yet through it all things are done,” and asks what might happen if America stopped performing innocence long enough to tell the truth.

From the edge of empire — and the center of self — this is The Tao of Lloyd.

  • Bonus: The Tao of Lloyd Goes to Edinburgh Fringe
    Jun 3 2026

    Go Fund me: https://www.gofundme.com/f/Tao-of-Lloyd-Goes-to-Edinburgh-Fringe
    Website: https://www.taooflloyd.com/

This is not a traditional Tao of Lloyd episode.

There is no Tao Te Ching chapter today. No sorta-kinda guided meditation. No carefully structured spiritual detour through the burning wreckage of American empire.

    This one is more direct.

One year after launching The Tao of Lloyd as a strange little podcast experiment, the show is becoming a live solo theater piece — written and performed by Dennis Trainor Jr. — and heading to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for a full run in August 2026.

In this special anniversary episode, Dennis steps out from behind the usual format to talk about how the podcast grew into a stage show, what Edinburgh represents, why this opportunity matters, and why he is asking listeners, friends, and supporters to help fund the next phase.

The GoFundMe campaign supports costs connected to Boston rehearsals, travel, London rehearsals and previews, Edinburgh production expenses, marketing, and the thousand small costs that come with getting an independent solo show across the ocean and onto the stage.

So yes: this is a transparent donation ask.

But it is also a thank-you note, a one-year marker, and a report from the weird little borderland where podcasting, theater, spiritual refusal, Gen X nostalgia, and late-stage everything somehow became one project.

If The Tao of Lloyd has meant something to you this past year, please consider supporting the live show.

  • The Kids on the Bus (S2. Chapter 36)
    May 27 2026

Pete Hegseth stood at West Point and gave the graduates a story in which the enemy is legible, the mission is clean, and unity means everyone sings the same song.

    Lloyd knows that song.

He sang it once. On a school bus in 1979, to a girl named Layla who looked out the window and pretended not to hear.

Chapter 36 of the Tao Te Ching says the soft overcomes the hard.

Lloyd isn't sure he believes that yet.

But he's choosing to, for now.

  • The Meridian Doctrine (S2.Chapter 35)
    May 21 2026

What happens when affirmation becomes more intoxicating than action?

Lloyd Dobler gets invited to speak at an exclusive corporate retreat hosted by Meridian Systems, where billionaire futurists, wellness branding, political power, and technological “innovation” all begin to blur into something deeply unsettling.

What starts as a sorta-kinda guided meditation becomes a story about ego, revolution, performance, and the seductive danger of being seen by the very systems you claim to oppose.

    Along the way:

    • Lloyd gets shouted down at an activist healing circle in Los Angeles
    • bombs at a London open mic featuring AI-assisted breakup poetry and a Fleetwood Mac divorce musical
    • hears Lao Tzu and Lin-Manuel Miranda fighting for control of his conscience

The Tao of Lloyd blends fiction, commentary, satire, and real-world events. Some characters, scenes, and narrative elements are fictionalized. The headlines, unfortunately, are real.

  • Peter Thiel, Silicon Valley Messiah, Would Like to Sell You a Ticket to the Ark (S2. Chapter 34)
    May 13 2026

What happens when a 2,500-year-old Taoist philosophy collides with Peter Thiel, Palantir, billionaire apocalypse bunkers, and the theology of ownership?

In Chapter 34 of The Tao of Lloyd, Lloyd Dobler takes apart the worldview of Silicon Valley's techno-billionaire class — where monopoly is virtue, surveillance is infrastructure, and even the apocalypse becomes a business opportunity. Drawing from Chapter 34 of the Tao Te Ching, Lloyd explores Peter Thiel's philosophy of power, Palantir's role in surveillance and immigration enforcement, billionaire escape fantasies, and the growing belief that the future should belong only to "the exceptional."

But this episode isn't just political satire. It's a spiritual wrestling match.

Can Taoist non-attachment survive late-stage capitalism? Is meditation liberation… or just stress management for empire? And what happens when a civilization forgets the difference between nourishment and ownership?

This is the podcast where Lloyd meditates specifically so he doesn't find the Unabomber's graphic design relatable. So far it's working. Mostly.

Blending Taoist philosophy, Gen X humor, political commentary, and existential dread, The Tao of Lloyd asks whether the real resistance might still be found in ordinary people quietly taking care of one another while the powerful try to privatize the future itself.

From the edge of empire — and the center of self — this is The Tao of Lloyd.

  • What if The Story Chooses You? (S2. Chapter 33)
    May 5 2026

Self-knowledge, identity, and Tao Te Ching Chapter 33: when knowing yourself isn’t peaceful, and the story shaping you may not be your own.

What if you don’t choose your story… what if it chooses you?

Chapter 33 of the Tao Te Ching tells us: “Knowing yourself is true wisdom.”
Simple, right? Slap it on a refrigerator magnet and call it enlightenment.

    Not so fast.

This week, Lloyd Dobler wrestles with what happens when you look inside and don’t find the peaceful monk—you find the guy in the background of the monk’s Instagram story wondering if maybe… the table should be flipped.

From billion-dollar war economies to Broadway revolutionaries, from Alan Watts and the multiverse to the uncomfortable logic behind radical acts, Lloyd asks a question most of us avoid:

What if the distance between who you think you are and who you could become… is just a story you’ve tuned into?

Because if story plus belief plus repetition equals reality—then we’ve got a situation.

    Once you’re inside the story…
    you don’t choose your actions.

    The story chooses you.

  • A Gen X Manifesto for Surviving Late-Stage Everything
    Apr 28 2026

What if Gen X wasn’t apathetic? What if we were just early to the end everyone else is still calling normal?

Before burnout became a personality, before “late-stage capitalism” became a punchline, there was a generation raised on latchkey independence, mixtape philosophy, and the quiet suspicion that none of this was built to last.

In this episode, Lloyd Dobler returns to deliver a Gen X Manifesto for Late-Stage Everything—a kinda-sorta guided meditation for surviving the collapse without losing your sense of humor… or your soul.

    This one moves through:

    • the myth of apathy vs. the reality of disillusionment
    • what Gen X saw coming (and what we missed anyway)
    • why burnout isn’t failure—it’s feedback
    • Taoist non-forcing as a survival strategy (not a surrender)
    • and how “quitting” might actually be the most honest move left

It’s part cultural critique, part spiritual riff, part anti-self-help mixtape labeled in Sharpie:

Side A: The System Is Glitching
    Side B: You’re Not Crazy

    No gurus. No solutions.
Just a middle-aged zen-punk dissident duct-taping ancient wisdom to the slow-motion unravelling of the American experiment.

    Close your eyes. Or don’t.
Either way… you’re already in it.

From the edge of empire and the center of self—
this is The Tao of Lloyd.
