TROPE ON A ROPE is a weekly podcast where Jeff and his mate Colin, along with their guests discuss and dissect the common movie tropes that have come to define cinema.


From the high concept sci-fi mind-f**k that contorts ideas of reality and identity; the young and naive small-town musician who is thrown into the deep-end world of money, high fashion and fame; and the brooding anti-hero whose methods test the bounds of an audiences acceptance; to the grizzled cop that will work the case no matter what their superiors say; the time-loops that allow our protagonist years’ worth of personal growth in day; and those films where Liam Neeson just f**kin’ punches shit in the face.


We’ll look at them all, compare, contrast, and contemplate which are raised up the flag-pole for all to salute, and which are hoisted by their own petard.

So join myself and colin as we wander the dark and for some reason very long corridors of the good ship Event Horizon, a film that everyone at the time kinda brushed aside, even though its f**kin' awsome.

    Hello, join us as we work our way through the turbulent waters of TERRY GILLIAM films, a man with unbounded imagination that often comes up against real world problems. In DR. PARNASSUS he (not for the first time) came up against the problem of his main character dying halfway through filming, so had to come up with some crafty solutions to navigate his way around it. Problem is that the film, as inventive as it is, has a real problem (not for the first time) with women and how old they are... its a bit crook.
