Together, they examine Arizona’s Alternative Business Structure, also known as the ABS model. This regulatory framework allows nonlawyers to hold ownership interests in licensed law firms. It can give firms access to outside capital, business experience, and technology that may help them lower costs, offer new payment models, and reach people who might otherwise go without legal help.

But changing who can own a law firm also raises important questions about attorney independence, ethics, accountability, and client protection.
