** The phrase "Hedge your bets" means to protect yourself against loss by supporting more than one possible outcome or leaving a means of retreat open. It involves taking actions to offset potential future losses, often by diversifying choices or investments. The term originates from gambling, where it refers to making multiple bets to minimise risk. **

You could say the safe bet is to place all your bets on the red and then some on the black. An even spread? Or more on one choice than the other?
