The Reel Score is finally back! In this second episode of the series, we launch into a discussion of the score for The Mask of Zorro! James Horner was the composer an up top there is a lot of discussion about his career, both in praise and measured criticism. One thing all three hosts agree on, this score is truly excellent and a key part of elevating the action-adventure film. As a throwback to old Romantic Adventure films, both visualization and music are working in concert to produce a final piece worth talking for hours about, which they do! The simple genius of the theme and motif work here is broken down across all stretches of the film, illuminating how Horner got so much mileage out of the same pieces. They even uncover an issue they all have with the film at large that the score can not save, which is a surprise to them all and creates a great talk over how music comes together for a climax. There's a lot to chew on here so they hope you enjoy a lot of it!

The Reel Score is finally here! In the premiere episode, the trio digs into the score for last year's hit film: The Batman. Michael Giacchino served as composer and there's so much richness in his deceptively simple themes. Some time is spent setting up the show and establishing the relationship to score all three have, but the bulk is going to be a lot of consideration for the work Giacchino did to make this film such an incredible piece of art. They go over the transition of Bruce's journey done through music, the parallels in the Riddler's Ave Maria based theme, and how Selina's theme emanates great noir. You're not going to want to miss this premiere episode!
