  • Pregnant Women Shackled in Immigrant Detention

    Eunice Cho is senior counsel at the ACLU National Prison Project. She's a nationally recognized expert and litigator on issues pertaining to immigration detention, including access to counsel. She has served as lead and co-counsel in numerous cases to protect the rights of immigrant detainees, including people held at the cruelly named Alligator Alcatraz detention facility and the Guantanamo Naval Base.

    She recently co-authored a letter to ICE describing the conditions of pregnant women in detention describing violation of protocol and human rights abuses.

    On the podcast she discusses the current state of immigrant detention and her concerns about the escalation of new detention facilities and the decreasing state of care for detainees.

    The ICE riads have been indiscriminate and are racially profiling. In the past few months, Native Americans some also referred to as First Nations People have been detained in Iowa, Arizona and Minnesota. Tribal Identification has not been accepted in some cases even though all Native peoples are US Citizens. Gabriel Galanda sits down with John Carlos Frey to discuss the current immigration raids and how Natives are being affected. Gabe is an indigenous rights attorney and the managing lawyer at Galanda Broadman. His practice focuses on representing indigenous nations, businesses and citizens. He advocates against tribal and citizenship rights violations, as well as other domestic indigenous human rights abuses, including law enforcement and violence
