We got our first Head Coach interview here on the Official Visit as we sat down with Loomis' football head coach, Tye Spies. I was excited to talk to Coach Spies about his time at UNK, his current roles as Football and T&F head coach, and starting up a lineman camp in the offseason.

Coach Spies reflects on his football journey, from his start in Mullen, NE, to traveling across the state, helping develop young offensive and defensive linemen. Tye talks about his playing career at UNK, where he entered as a tight end and ended up a 3x All-conference defensive lineman, what the transition from 8-man football to college level was like, his "welcome to college moment," and the importance of taking advantage of your education. He then goes into Coach Spies mode as we talk about what got him into coaching, the challenges of being an HC, how to keep players bought in, and he names some Loomis players to watch. Finally, we talk about how he, Coach Squiers, and Coach Hoelck began the Unsung Heroes lineman camp and their vision for it, as well as the importance of going into the smaller communities and providing opportunities there.

We're kicking the month off with a new episode of The Official Visit. This week, I ventured out to the Battle for the Monarch Crown 7v7 tournament hosted at Papillion La Vista. This was my first 7v7 tourney of the season, and it allowed me to check out several great players from Omaha, Lincoln, Aurora, Missouri/Kansas, and Iowa. In this episode, I give a quick recap of the tournament and name a few standout players who really caught my eye on Saturday.

It was an action-packed day in which I could add some new players to my radar. The tournament concluded with an epic clash between the NE Red Wolves Dawgs and the Epic 7 grey team. The two teams went back and forth before the Red Wolves were able to pull away for the 29-19 victory. The Red Wolves 14U team also won their division, giving them the sweep for the day. I was also able to interview Coach Tank Perry, who has been working hard to build up the Nebraska 7v7 circuit and is the founder of the Red Wolves. Coach Perry talks about why he felt the need to develop this system, the growth of his 7v7 team, and where he sees the Nebraska 7v7 landscape in a few years.

We also cover his great career on the gridiron thus far. Quinn talks about the growth he saw in his development and in his teammates, which led to a winning season and a playoff berth. Emerging from an unfortunate circumstance, QB Madden Riggs and Co. battled to a state championship berth. Now, Madden joins us on the Official Visit to revisit his season.

Madden gives us a breakdown of how his football journey began back in 6th grade to now heading into his senior season. Riggs tells us how he prepared himself to take over the Elkhorn South season after an injury to the starter. He shares how himself and the team was able to rally and finish out a dominant season, including a huge semi-final upset over Millard South. Madden also fills us in on his recruitment and which schools/coaches have shown interest thus far.
