THE MOOT TREE

How much of your life do you actually control?

I’m Jason Gregg, an author and social critic, and that question is at the heart of The Moot Tree.

We live in a world where it’s remarkably easy to hand over responsibility — to governments, corporations, technology, experts and systems we barely understand.

The Moot Tree is about taking some of that control back.

Not by breaking laws, rejecting government or dropping out of society, but by becoming more capable, more resilient and less dependent.

Each episode explores practical ways to do that — through food, money, energy, technology, community, democracy and critical thinking. We’ll question some things we’ve learned to accept and, more importantly, ask what ordinary people can actually do about them.

This isn’t left wing or right wing. It isn’t about anger, rebellion or sovereign citizen legal theories.

It’s about personal sovereignty through responsibility — accepting challenges, making better choices and taking greater control of the things we can change.

Because perhaps the most powerful kind of independence is simply becoming harder to control because we’ve become more capable.

Welcome to The Moot Tree.

Think Freely. Live Deliberately.

  • Could You Feed Yourself?
    Sep 20 2026

How much control do you really have over the food you eat? Drawing on Jason Gregg’s experience helping transform a California valley into thriving organic gardens, Could You Feed Yourself? explores what happens when we reconnect with where our food comes from. This isn’t about abandoning supermarkets or becoming completely self-sufficient. It’s about becoming more capable. Listeners are challenged to cook ten simple meals, build a practical pantry, grow something edible, reduce food waste and reconnect with local producers. The goal is simple: spend less, waste less, eat more deliberately and regain some control over one of life’s most basic necessities.

  • Who Really Controls Your Money
    Sep 12 2026

Earning money doesn’t necessarily mean controlling it. Who Really Controls Your Money? examines how debt, subscriptions, habitual spending and lifestyle inflation can claim our income before we consciously decide where it goes. This episode offers practical ways to regain financial control by examining spending, eliminating waste, creating emergency reserves and reconsidering the true cost of purchases in hours of your life. Listeners are challenged to create greater breathing room between income and expenses while developing skills that increase earning options. The goal isn’t simply accumulating wealth—it’s using money deliberately to create security, reduce stress, reclaim time and build greater freedom of choice.

  • Democracy Is More Than Voting
    Sep 5 2026

Democracy shouldn’t begin and end at the ballot box. Democracy Is More Than Voting challenges listeners to become active participants rather than frustrated spectators. In this episode we explore how meaningful influence often begins close to home—within neighbourhoods, councils and community organisations. Instead of simply complaining about decisions, listeners are encouraged to understand issues, contact representatives, consider opposing viewpoints and contribute practical solutions. The episode introduces simple challenges for becoming more involved locally while resisting political tribalism. Its message is straightforward: strong democracies require capable, informed citizens who participate, contribute and take responsibility—not merely people who vote and wait for government to act.
