  • Performing Under Pressure
    Jan 13 2026

In this week's episode I am joined by Katy Rosewood who is a Sport & Exercise Psychologist in training.

Katy is a qualified Personal Trainer and also a qualified Nurse with 25 years of experience in the NHS.

Katy has always been involved in sport and exercise, mainly due to having parents who were good role models.

Today we talk mainly about Sport Psychology and how this transfers to other areas of work where people need to perform under pressure. We discuss the importance of 'mental toughness' and what that looks like.

Before you ask, mental toughness is not the absence of negative feelings, it's being able to experience those feelings and still being able to perform. So many people think that the definition of 'strong' is not feeling any fear, anxiety or doubt and being able to keep soldiering on in challenging environments, and in my experience it's this perspective that burns people out, because we are human and we will experience negative emotions - That doesn't mean that we are weak!

We also discuss resilience and what that looks like in sport and in challenging careers like the Police and NHS.

  • Stop Trying to Feel Better
    Dec 29 2025

In this episode I talk about the dangers of constantly wanting to feel better.

Most people's pain comes from the fact that they are fighting the way they are feeling in a given moment. Because of how the human brain is wired we cannot escape the fact that we will experience negative emotions. The problem is, is that we have been conditioned not to experience negative emotions and then we try and move ourselves out of it which normally causes more negativity.

The author of 'The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F%@k', Mark Manson said it perfectly when he said "The desire for a more positive experience is itself a negative experience and paradoxically, the acceptance of one's negative experience is itself a positive experience."

Instead of constantly trying to make ourselves and others feel better we should be teaching ourselves and others how to feel.

Have a listen and see what you think.

  • Can you manage time?
    Dec 22 2025

This episode was recorded while I was still in the Police and I attended a Time Management Course.

Here I share my beliefs on Time Management and how no strategy is going to stick unless you address perfectionism, people pleasing and the fear of other's opinions.

There are so many helpful strategies out there but you first have to learn to manage yourself.

Have a listen and see what you think.
