  • Your Podcast Can Be a Limited Series
    Oct 20 2026

A former coworker of mine had a sign on his door that said “AFDI.” It stood for “Actually Doing It.” (I’ll let you figure out what the F stood for.) The hardest part about starting a podcast is just that - AFDI. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, between finding the right equipment, getting the show online, and figuring out your content. And once you’ve done all that, haven’t you just added one thing to your plate forever?

    Well, not necessarily.

For most of my clients, their podcast is a branding/marketing tool. What if you created a podcast series as an asset to answer YOUR clients’ and potential clients’ frequently asked questions?

    Limited Series Example:

I’ve done several podcast series with financial advisors. And there’s enough content there for us to have done monthly shows since 2019. But maybe you don’t have the time or budget to commit to this indefinitely. What are the 5 most frequently asked questions you get? They could be:

    • What’s this going to cost me to hire you?
    • How do I know if I’ve saved enough for retirement?
    • Should I do a Roth conversion?
    • What do I do when the market drops?
    • How do I leave a legacy for my children and grandchildren?

Boom. Five episodes. It’s a finite commitment on your part. And when you get these questions, you can refer clients that respective episode, instead of having the same conversation over and over and over again.

    Visibility

This is a great tool for existing clients and leads. But here’s another bonus. If your podcast is optimized for SEO (traditional and AI), through good show notes and transcripts, others may find you. If someone is searching for Roth conversions or legacy planning, your podcast might come up. Now that lead is in your sales funnel. You’ve established credibility and they “know” you on some level because they’ve listened to or watched you.

    Repurposing

Once you’ve created the content, it can go everywhere. Of course, the podcast will start on Apple, Spotify, and YouTube (even if audio only). But you can embed the content on your website. You can make social media shorts and reels from the content and put them on all of your channels. All of this will drive discovery.

    A Limited, Feasible Task

We are all busy. If the idea of doing a podcast every week, or every month, is daunting - this may be the perfect foray into the genre. Map out what you want to do. Execute it. And the evergreen content is the gift that keeps on giving.

If this is a project I can help you with in 2027, feel free to reach out.

    Special Thanks:

I should thank my client Jill Mastroianni, estate planning attorney and host of The Death Readiness Podcast, for the idea for today’s post. You can learn more about her here.

    Bonus:

Two of the smartest people I know in podcasting sat down for a conversation recently. Matt Cundill, who I call the Podcast King of Canada, intereviewed Jay Nachlis, the brilliant researcher at Coleman Insights. They talked about podcasts’ role in battling the loneliness epidemic we are facing. They also covered video, Smart TVs, and various other developments in podcasting and radio. • Your Podcast Is Like Going to The Gym
    Oct 12 2026

Your podcast is like going to the gym. Starting takes motivation, but sticking with it takes consistency. A lot of people make a New Year’s resolution to finally launch a show. They come in excited, full of ideas, and ready to build something. But just like the gym in January, that early rush fades fast once people realize the work is harder than they expected.

By mid-January, the excitement starts to wear off. By the Super Bowl, the gym has more open machines, and the podcast world has more open space too. Guests are easier to book. Consultants have more availability. The people who stay with it can find a rhythm. But getting past the first wave is only the beginning.

Once the early competition disappears, the real challenge begins. Now you have to keep going for yourself. You find your format, your style, and your regular segments. That is like finding your favorite cardio machine. But a strong podcast needs more than the part you enjoy most. Recording may be fun. Editing, planning, writing social posts, and promoting the show may feel like leg day. Still, those pieces matter if you want people to find your work.

That leads to pod fading. Life gets busy. Vacation happens. Kids’ sports start. Work gets heavy. Before long, you miss a week, then a month, and maybe longer. Then you start asking whether the podcast is still worth the money and time.

The answer can still be yes, if you come back. A break may cost you some downloads or momentum, but it does not erase everything you built. You are not starting from zero. I know that from experience. The Jag Show launched in April 2018 with the goal of being weekly, but over eight years and more than 200 episodes, it has had plenty of gaps. At one point, I took eight months off. More recently, I only released one episode between October 2025 and April 2026.

But each time I came back, listeners were glad the show returned. That is the point. A break does not have to become the end. If people liked hearing from you before, they will likely be glad to hear from you again.

  • How To Use AI in Your Podcast

Navigating AI in Podcast Production: What You Need to Know

Discover the balance between AI tools and authentic storytelling in your podcast.

For a deeper dive, check out this week's article on Substack.

In a world where everyone is buzzing about AI, it’s crucial to consider its role in podcast production. AI can streamline certain tasks, but it’s essential to maintain that human touch that elevates a podcast beyond average.

    The AI Dilemma in Podcasting

AI tools are becoming increasingly integrated into the podcasting process, but the decision to use them comes with risks. For for every step—be it creating transcripts, show notes, or even enhancing audio—there’s a trade-off between convenience and quality.

"AI creates average content and does not have the human touch. A successful podcast has to be above average and have that actual emotional human connection."

This highlights the importance of remaining vigilant about the quality of content generated or edited by AI.

    Best Practices for AI Utilization

Jag outlines several practical applications of AI:

    • Transcripts: While AI can automate transcription, it often misinterprets words, which can lead to significant misunderstandings. Always proofread AI-generated transcripts carefully.
    • Show Notes: AI can assist in drafting show notes, but they must be tailored to sound human-like to avoid penalties from search engines.
    • Content Ideas: AI can help overcome writer's block by suggesting topics based on trending discussions in your niche.

NEVER, EVER allow AI to write scripts or voice your podcast. Authenticity is key in maintaining a connection with your audience.

"The beauty of podcasting is the personality that comes through. A machine will never be able to replicate that."

    Enhancing Audio: Tread Carefully

AI tools that enhance audio quality can be helpful, especially when dealing with poor recordings. Yet, over-reliance on these tools can lead to unnatural edits and distorted sounds. Jag advises careful adjustments to ensure the final product maintains its integrity and authenticity.

    Final Thoughts

As you consider integrating AI into your podcasting workflow, reflect on what truly resonates with your audience. The heart of podcasting lies in genuine connection and storytelling. If you know someone looking to start a podcast, Jag encourages you to reach out! Planning for podcasting in 2027 starts now.
