Should I stay or should I go?

A solo-episode this week things are changing and I'm at a crossroad I can close out expat life or make a fresh start sooner. Which would you choose?

How much of a role does societal conditioning play in our decision making?

Last but not least. What are you going to do for the summer holidays if you live in the northern hemisphere? Staying local or are you crossing borders?

This week my guest has itchy feet and so does her husband.

This week on the Enterprising Expat Sonya is an Instructional Designer who got the the travel bug in her late teens and has lived in Peru - Germany and Japan (so far).

We chat about how International Development doesn't always mean living overseas.

Her first international stint in Peru

Whether it's easier to be an expat if you are single.

Carving out a plan before you move

Compromising when you and your partner both have itchy feet

The one rule to obey in Germany and how teaching English was a pathway to a new career in Instructional design.

She will also helpfully explain what Instructional design is!

  • What's The Unwritten Rule?
    May 1 2021

Are their behaviours and habits that struck you as odd when you landed but now you find yourself doing them?

Do you know what to say if someone won't stop banging on the door of the toilet stall in South Africa?

I asked an amazing group of women about the local rules in their host countries or back home. It was so enlightening to read their answers.

Please note none of this is meant to disparage anyone's culture or country, I hope that it opens minds about watching the locals and trying be a great guest in your host country.

  • What it's Like To be A First Generation Kid
    Apr 17 2021

    Welcome back!

This week is another short solo - show

It did not seem right to ignore the trial for the killing of George Floyd or to ignore how heavy it weighs on me as black woman. So this week I decided to give a little perspective on what it means to belong when you are the first generation born outside your other home country.

This led me to also talk about:

    • The room you never want to go into at Immigration.
    • No Dogs & No Blacks and
    • why I'm going to talk more about race

    .
