  • What’s in Your WIP Bag? Take the Crochet Challenge | The Crochet Stitch #13
    Jul 10 2026

Welcome back to The Crochet Stitch, the weekly crochet podcast from Yarn Over Hook, the global home of crochet.

View the Newsletter: Take the “What’s in Your WIP Bag?” Challenge

Before you listen any further, grab the WIP bag closest to you.

    Do not clean it.

    Do not organize it.

Do not remove the mystery receipt, loose yarn tails, or project you forgot was in there.

This week, we are opening our project bags and taking an honest inventory.

In this episode, we introduce the “What’s in Your WIP Bag?” challenge, where crocheters can calculate their score based on the tools, supplies, yarn tails, backup projects, and mystery items currently hiding inside their project bag.

We also talk about what your score might say about your WIP bag style, whether you are a WIP Bag Minimalist, a Prepared Maker, a Crochet Problem Solver, or fully operating out of a Traveling Yarn Room.

Plus, we introduce the newest Yarn Over Hook community personality quiz: What Kind of WIP Bag Crocheter Are You?

    Are you:

    The Light Packer?

    The Prepared Project Planner?

    The Cozy Crocheter?

    The Mobile Yarn Studio?

There is only one way to find out.

This week, we are also celebrating 1,290 donated soap sacks for the Summer Stash Bash soap sack challenge, continuing the Great Summer Mosaic CAL, and previewing a full week of Yarn Over Hook shows, including Crochet & Chat, Summer Stash Bash with Stitches, a YouTube Members Exclusive, and a special guest episode with Drew about learning how to spin yarn.

So open your bag, count your points, laugh at what you find, and remember that every WIP bag tells a story.

  • Could You Write a Crochet Pattern? What Makes a Good Pattern
    Jun 21 2026
Welcome back to The Crochet Stitch, the weekly crochet podcast from Yarn Over Hook, the global home of crochet.View the Newsletter: Could You Write a Crochet Pattern? Let’s Talk About ItThis week, we’re talking about something that can feel surprisingly intimidating: writing crochet patterns. Not just following them. Not just saving them. Not just saying, “I could probably figure that out.”Actually writing one.Recently, Roman’s Skinny Scarf™ became an official Yarn Over Hook pattern. And yes, it is technically a pattern made mostly of chains. But it also became something bigger. It started as a community joke. Then it became a call to arms. Then it became a reminder that sometimes the first pattern you write does not have to be complicated to be meaningful. So this week, we’re asking: What makes a crochet pattern good? And what stops more crocheters from writing one?In this episode, we talk about why a good crochet pattern does not have to be fancy, 40 pages long, perfectly photographed, or filled with complicated stitches. But it should help another maker feel supported.Because a good pattern is not just a set of instructions. It is a guide. It is a little voice saying, “You’ve got this. Here’s what comes next.”We also invite you to take this week’s Yarn Over Hook quiz and find out what kind of crochet pattern person you are. Are you The Pattern Follower, The Pattern Modifier, The Pattern Collector, The Pattern Tester, or The Pattern Editor? Then we look ahead at this week’s Yarn Over Hook livestream schedule, including tips for crocheting blankets in the summer, Summer Stash Bash with Stitches Featured Pattern No. 4, a YouTube Members Exclusive session continuing the Viscountess Top by MJ’s Off The Hook Designs, and Square Up Saturday with mystery granny squares and community choice. This week’s latest video features Mosaic Sunglasses by Remington Lane Crochet and five things Sammi has learned so far about mosaic crochet. We also celebrate Furls Crochet Hooks’ 14th birthday and spotlight Roman’s Skinny Scarf™ as an official Yarn Over Hook pattern. It is simple, mostly chains, and somehow full of community lore, beginner-friendly confidence, and heart.Writing a crochet pattern can feel intimidating because it asks you to share not just what you made, but how you think. It asks you to slow down, explain your choices, count your stitches, and support someone you may never meet. That is generous work.Maybe your first pattern will be a blanket. Maybe it will be a bag. Maybe it will be a granny square. Maybe it will be 503 chains and a dream.Whatever it is, we are glad you are here.Keep creating. Keep learning. Keep connecting.Yarn Over Hook helps crocheters create, learn, and connect.━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━🔗 LINKS & RESOURCESExplore Yarn Over Hook 🧶 https://yarnoverhook.com/start-here📅 Explore Crochet Events https://crochetevents.com 📬 Subscribe to The Stitch Newsletterhttps://yarnoverhook.com/the-stitch-newsletter/Play Name That Stitch 🎮 https://namethatstitch.comWatch on YouTube 📹https://youtube.com/@YarnOverHookSocial━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ABOUT YARN OVER HOOKYarn Over Hook is the global home of crochet — a platform built to help crocheters create, learn, and connect through tutorials, podcasts, livestreams, events, stitch libraries, crochet games, and community resources.Built by makers, for makers. 🧶🌍 https://yarnoverhook.com/aboutThe Crochet Stitch is a weekly crochet podcast hosted by Sammi Jai and produced by Yarn Over Hook.© 2026 DesignOps as a Service DOaaS LLC d/b/a Yarn Over Hook. • Crochet Guild Australia 2026 Convention, Market Bags & Summer Stash Bash
    Jun 14 2026

Welcome back to The Crochet Stitch, the weekly crochet podcast from Yarn Over Hook, the global home of crochet.

View the Newsletter: Crochet Goes Global: Australia, Market Bags & Summer Stash Bash

This week, crochet is taking us to Wollongong, New South Wales, as we spotlight Crochet Guild Australia’s 2026 Crochet Convention, happening from 19–21 June 2026.

Centered around the theme Made to Last, this three-day convention brings together crocheters, fiber artists, educators, and makers for workshops, a yarn market, guest tutors, and community connection. The featured educator lineup includes Toni Lipsey of TL Yarn Crafts, Krisztine Anna Edömér of K.A.M.E. Crochet, Rhondda Mol of Oombawka Design Crochet, Arunima Goel of KnitterKnotter, Abbey of Abbeymade, Jenny King, and Linda Dean.

We also ask this week’s community question: which crochet situation would you rather survive? Losing at yarn chicken with only three stitches left, discovering mismatched dye lots halfway through, frogging three rows, weaving in 47 ends, finding a knot at the worst possible moment, or realizing you used the wrong hook size?

Plus, we share this week’s Yarn Over Hook livestreams, including Crochet & Chat with the French Market Bag, Summer Stash Bash with Stitches, a YouTube Members exclusive project, and Square Up Saturday with granny squares and crochet charts.

We also highlight the latest video, Joining a Fun Summer Mosaic CAL, and feature Yarn Me Calm, a fibre art studio based in Portarlington, Victoria, on Australia’s beautiful Bellarine Peninsula.

Whether crochet shows up for you as a convention, a CAL, a market bag, a granny square, a soap sack, or ten quiet minutes with your hook and yarn, it all counts.

Grab your project and join us for this week’s stitch.

Yarn Over Hook helps crocheters create, learn, and connect.

  • Happy Worldwide Crochet in Public Day | The Crochet Stitch Podcast
    Jun 13 2026

Welcome back to The Crochet Stitch, the weekly crochet podcast from Yarn Over Hook, the global home of crochet.

View the Newsletter: Happy Worldwide Crochet in Public Day

Today is Worldwide Crochet in Public Day, and we are celebrating one of the simplest, most joyful ways to make crochet visible: taking your current project somewhere out in the world.

You do not need a big plan.

You do not need a perfect project.

You do not need an official event.

You just need your yarn, your hook, and a place where crochet can be seen.

In this special episode, we talk about what Worldwide Crochet in Public Day is, why it matters, and how crocheters can participate from almost anywhere. Maybe you are stitching at a local yarn shop, a coffee shop table, a library chair, a park bench, or your favorite crochet-friendly community space. Wherever you are, one crocheter in public still counts.

We also invite you to take the Yarn Over Hook Crochet Spot Quiz to find your perfect public crochet personality. Are you a Library Stitcher, Park Picnic Maker, Café Crocheter, Local Yarn Shop Loyalist, or Creative Wildcard?

Then we share simple ways to make the most of Crochet in Public Day, including visiting a local yarn shop, bringing a portable project to a park, inviting a friend for a mini sit-and-stitch, checking local event listings, or creating your own small crochet moment.

We would also love to hear where you are stitching today. Share your project, your setup, your yarn shop visit, your café table, or your favorite public crochet spot. Tag Yarn Over Hook on Instagram and invite a crochet friend to take the quiz too.

Worldwide Crochet in Public Day is a beautiful reminder that crochet is community. Every stitch, every conversation, every curious question, and every project shared helps make crochet more visible in the world.

So grab your yarn, take your crochet somewhere public if you are able, and let the craft be seen.

Keep creating. Keep learning. Keep connecting.

Yarn Over Hook helps crocheters create, learn, and connect.

  • What Would You Tell Your Beginner Crochet Self? | May 17th
    May 19 2026

Welcome back to The Crochet Stitch, the weekly crochet podcast from Yarn Over Hook, the global home of crochet.

View the Newsletter: What would you tell your beginner crochet self?

This week, we’re asking a simple but meaningful question:

What would you tell your beginner crochet self?

If you could go back and start your crochet journey again, what would you change? What would you keep the same? Would you worry less about perfect stitches, buy different yarn, try new techniques sooner, or simply remind yourself that every tangled skein and uneven row is part of learning?

In this episode, we reflect on the beginner crochet journey, the lessons we learn over time, and the little pieces of advice that can make the craft feel more joyful, less intimidating, and more connected.

We also share what’s happening across Yarn Over Hook, including community updates, crochet resources, upcoming events, shop submissions, and ways for makers to get involved. Whether you’re joining a livestream, catching up on a replay, submitting an event, sharing a crochet-friendly shop, or working through your latest WIP, there’s a place for you here.

This episode is a reminder that crochet is not about being perfect from the beginning. It’s about learning, experimenting, making mistakes, finding your rhythm, and becoming part of a creative community along the way.

So grab your hook, think back to your first stitches, and join us for this week’s episode.

Yarn Over Hook helps crocheters create, learn, and connect.
