The Conflict Archive Dialogues is part of The Archive Network by Jonkai Ventures, a collection of podcasts dedicated to the stories that shaped our world.

Every episode is a conversation. Aurelius and Malik, curators of The Conflict Archive, take a single war — the Seven Years' War, the English Civil War, the Invasion of Poland, Afghanistan 2001-2021 — and follow it from the first grievance to the terms of the peace. One lays out how it was fought and decided: the alliance that held, the supply line that didn't, the choice that only looks obvious afterwards. The other presses on what the campaign map leaves out — who was conscripted, what the victory actually settled, and what it merely postponed.

These are not summaries. Each episode is one complete war, examined from both sides in a single sitting.

  • Granada War
    Sep 24 2026
Smoke rises in the cold dawn over Andalusia. The last Muslim stronghold in Spain, Granada, stands on a knife’s edge—its fate hanging in the chill air. Listen closely: the world is about to change forever.Picture a city of glimmering minarets and lush gardens, but don’t let the beauty fool you. In the shadow of the Sierra Nevada, tension is mounting. For centuries, Granada has survived through uneasy truces, fragile alliances, and the heavy weight of tribute to its Christian neighbors. But now, the union of Isabella and Ferdinand has forged a Christian power unlike anything seen before. Their goal? To finish the Reconquista, to claim every inch of Iberia for Christendom.Aurelius and Malik take on this case in full — 5 chapters, 34 minutes, one complete story.Learn more at: https://theconflictarchive.com/conflict/granada-war

  • English Civil War
    Sep 23 2026
Imagine England at dusk—fields quiet, towns bustling, but something is off. Beneath the calm, anxiety grows. Old wounds are opening, and the air is thick with secrets. Across the land, the stage is set for a confrontation that will tear the kingdom apart. You can almost feel the storm pressing closer, ready to break. The early seventeenth century in England is a land of shadows and suspicion. The monarchy, led by Charles the First, stands at the center of everything, but his grip is slipping. Charles believes he rules by divine right. He refuses to compromise, pushing his authority further than his subjects can bear. When he marries Henrietta Maria, a Catholic princess from France, fear erupts in a country still haunted by old religious wars. In candlelit taverns and crowded city streets, people whisper about Catholic plots and royal schemes. The scent of wax and perfume fills the royal court, but beneath the grandeur, unease lingers. Charles’s taxes—like Ship Money—hit everyone, from wealthy landowners to fishermen counting their last coins. When the king locks Parliament out of power, the divide between ruler and ruled becomes a chasm. In London’s grand churches, fiery sermons warn of Catholic influence, while secret pamphlets pass from hand to trembling hand, fueling anger and distrust.Aurelius and Malik take on this case in full — 5 chapters, 32 minutes, one complete story.Learn more at: https://theconflictarchive.com/conflict/english-civil-war

  • First Boer War
    Sep 22 2026
Imagine a land where the grass shimmers in the heat, where every gust of wind carries more than dust—it carries rumor, tension, the scent of something coming. In this vast, sun-baked veldt, strangers eye each other from across invisible lines, and every farmhouse could be the spark that sets the world ablaze. The quiet is deceptive—because beneath it, nerves are stretched to breaking. The South African veldt rolls wide, painted in gold and green, broken only by the whitewashed walls of Boer farmhouses. By the late eighteen seventies, these Boers—descendants of Dutch, German, and French pioneers—have built their lives on stubborn independence. They speak Afrikaans, cling to Calvinist faith, and regard British rule with deep suspicion. To the south, British colonists control the Cape, and though uneasy peace hangs over the land, history is thick with migration, conflict, and distrust. Yet, the land is restless. News of diamonds in Kimberley and whispers of gold in the Transvaal have set British ambitions alight. British officials dream of uniting southern Africa under the Crown. The Boer republics—the Transvaal and the Orange Free State—stand in the way. In eighteen seventy-seven, with the powerful Zulu kingdom looming, Britain annexes the Transvaal. They claim it’s for 'protection.' But to the Boers, the Union Jack is a symbol of betrayal and lost sovereignty.Aurelius and Malik take on this case in full — 5 chapters, 34 minutes, one complete story.Learn more at: https://theconflictarchive.com/conflict/first-boer-war
