  • There's A Light In You

Sometimes, you can see it before they ever find the words to explain it—a kind of light in their eyes.

Many autistic children and adults carry a deep desire to do good, help others, create something meaningful, or leave the world a little better than they found it. That drive may express itself through kindness, creativity, intense passions, curiosity, or a strong sense of fairness and purpose.

When an autistic individual is given encouragement, understanding, and opportunities to develop what matters to them, those qualities can grow into something that positively shapes not only their own life, but the lives of the people around them as well.

That potential doesn’t always announce itself loudly. Sometimes it appears in a fascination, a small act of compassion, a creative idea, or an earnest desire to make a difference. Giving that light room to grow can help someone build confidence, purpose, and a stronger sense of who they want to become.

  • Autistic Portrayals In Media
    Aug 14 2026

Autism is complex—and that complexity may be one reason authentic autistic representation can still feel so rare.

Portraying autism thoughtfully in movies, television, games, and other forms of media can be a daunting challenge. Autism can look dramatically different from one person to another, and capturing that variety with nuance requires creators to move beyond simple stereotypes and easy character archetypes.

But when a story does approach autism with genuine thought, research, and care, the results can be incredibly meaningful. A well-written character or storyline can give autistic viewers something invaluable: the experience of recognizing parts of themselves reflected back at them and realizing that their struggles, perspectives, and ways of navigating the world are worthy of being understood.

Meaningful representation can become more than entertainment. For someone who has spent much of their life feeling different or misunderstood, seeing a character who resonates with their own experiences can provide comfort, validation, and even hope—a reminder that they aren’t the only person who experiences the world the way they do.

The Light & The Darkness | The Autistic Mile

Parenting is filled with moments of incredible joy, but it can also carry challenges that few people outside the family ever see.

In this episode of The Autistic Mile, we explore “The Light & The Darkness” of raising an autistic child. We talk about the love, pride and unforgettable moments that bring light to the journey, while also acknowledging the stress, uncertainty, exhaustion and difficult decisions that can exist alongside them.

For parents, the journey doesn't happen in isolation. They are often balancing the needs of their autistic child while raising other children, maintaining careers, managing relationships, handling finances and simply trying to keep everyday life moving forward.

This episode isn't about choosing between the light and the darkness. It's about recognizing that both can exist at the same time. A parent can be incredibly proud of their child while also feeling overwhelmed. They can celebrate progress while worrying about the future. They can experience exhaustion while still finding the strength to keep going.

And through all of it, there is love.

Join us for an open and personal conversation about the side of autism parenting that deserves to be heard, understood and supported.
