Life gets busy, plans change, and sometimes you just can’t get behind the microphones. That’s exactly why Josh and Britt recorded this emergency episode ahead of time. It was made to sit on the shelf until one of those weeks when life got in the way. Well, apparently that week finally came.

In this episode of Still Figuring It Out, Josh and Britt talk about travel, making memories, and why sometimes you just have to book the trip. Josh shares why traveling means so much to him after growing up without many opportunities to see the world, and why he wants his kids to have experiences he never had.

They talk Disney, cruises, Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, New York City, the upcoming family trip through Asia, travel hacks, budgeting for vacations, and of course, planning trips around food.

Then, like usual, the conversation gets completely off track. Adult kids leaving clothes on the bathroom floor, bad knees, getting older, football, changing priorities, and realizing there are some things you thought you would miss that you really don’t.

It’s an emergency episode full of travel, family, food, memories, and the usual randomness.

We had a plan. We recorded the podcast. We thought we had a pretty good episode.

Then we realized the whole thing was muted. 😂

So we did what two dads who are Still Figuring It Out do best: started over.

This week, Josh and Britt talk about Proverbs 16:9: “A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD determines his steps.” And honestly, we couldn’t have planned a better example of that verse if we tried.

We talk about learning to roll with life when things don’t go according to plan, family, sports, upcoming travels, kids, softball, soccer, and why sometimes you just have to accept that you’re not in control.

Then we somehow end up talking about Rube Waddell, one of the greatest and strangest baseball players who ever lived. A Hall of Fame pitcher who chased fire trucks during games, wrestled alligators, got distracted by puppies, disappeared to go fishing, and was apparently so good he sometimes told his fielders to stay in the dugout.

Yeah. We couldn’t make this stuff up.

Sometimes you make the plans. Sometimes God changes them. And sometimes your kids just hit mute.

We’re still learning, still laughing, and definitely Still Figuring It Out.

Why does God continue to bless us when we know we don’t deserve it?

We definitely don’t have all the answers. We’re just two guys still figuring it out, trying to understand why God is so good to us even when we fall short.

What happens when we say we’ve given something to God, but then turn around and try to take it back?

After realizing that last week’s podcast about worry lined up almost perfectly with the following week’s Sunday school lesson, they reflect on how God has a way of connecting the dots in our lives and reminding us of what we need to hear.

From wanting everything on our own timeline to struggling to let go of things we can’t control, Josh and Britt have an honest conversation about surrendering our plans to God. They also talk about the importance of having Christian friends who will encourage us, challenge us, and hold us accountable when we need it.

Maybe we don’t always need to understand the entire plan. Maybe we just need to trust God with the next step.

We’re still figuring it out, but we’re learning that we don’t have to figure it all out alone.

Do you ever feel like you should have life figured out by now?

In this episode of Still Figuring It Out, Josh and Britt talk about the pressure we put on ourselves to have the right career, the right finances, the right relationships, the right parenting approach, and the right answers. The problem is, life rarely works that way.

They get real about parenting, career expectations, chasing success, wanting to control every situation, overthinking decisions, and the unrealistic expectations we sometimes place on ourselves and the younger generation.

At the center of the conversation is Proverbs 3:5: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

Sometimes we want to know the entire plan before we’re willing to take the next step. But faith doesn’t always mean knowing what’s coming. Sometimes it means trusting God enough to move forward without having all the answers.

Josh and Britt also talk about the importance of recognizing how far we’ve already come, learning to surrender control, and understanding that detours can be part of the journey.

Because the truth is, none of us have it all figured out.

Josh opens up about realizing that when he was uncomfortable, overwhelmed, or frustrated, he sometimes became short-tempered with his kids, even when they had done nothing wrong. That leads to a bigger conversation about recognizing when we’re reaching our limit, taking a moment to reset, and learning to respond instead of react.

The guys also talk about parenting, marriage, giving your spouse time to recharge, work, life’s everyday frustrations, and why sometimes the people closest to us end up receiving the worst version of us.

The episode eventually takes a deeper turn into faith as Josh and Britt discuss God’s will, unconditional love, and why they decided to start ending the podcast with Scripture.

This week’s verse is James 1:19-20: “Everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, for man’s anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness.”

Sometimes the person we’re angry with isn’t really the problem. Sometimes we’re just tired, stressed, uncomfortable, or overwhelmed. The challenge is recognizing it before we take it out on someone else.

Josh and Britt talk about getting the kids back into school, watching their kids grow up way too fast, parenting, work, new opportunities, apprenticeships, softball, church, cornhole, and the everyday chaos that comes with trying to balance family, careers, faith, and life.

It is not polished. It is not perfect. But it is real.

Because sometimes life doesn’t go according to plan. Sometimes you just have to laugh, keep moving, and figure it out as you go.

When It Rains, It Pours… and Jerzey Pushes Buttons 🤣

We’re finally back! After losing an entire episode because the recording stopped five minutes in, we got busy, life got chaotic, and somehow a whole week passed without an episode.

But we finally got back together and recorded this week’s episode. Everything was going great… until Jerzey pushed a button. 🤦‍♂️😂

So yes, we recorded the entire episode with Josh sounding like he was auditioning for a cartoon. But that’s pretty fitting for a podcast called Still Figuring It Out. We don’t edit much, we don’t always know what we’re doing, and apparently we can’t be trusted around buttons.

This week we talk about Britt’s extremely hot camping trip, his late-night encounter with “people shooting at us”, Josh’s mission trip to Germany and baseball camp, and of course, the everyday chaos that comes with trying to balance family, work, travel, and life.

It may not be perfect, but it’s real. And honestly, that’s what Still Figuring It Out is all about.
