  • 67. Descending into the Fertile Void to Rise into Our Authentic Power

    Today's message is one that has been repeatedly given to me as of late.

    If you are listening to this episode in real time, we are in Mercury Retrograde, Scorpio season, and today is the New Moon in Scorpio.

    The energetic and natural season that we are in is asking us to go inward, deeply, courageously… to ground, to surrender, to inquire with ourselves: What is my truth today? What might be an old story or an old belief or societal programming?

    Be curious.

    Be compassionate.

    Decide today who you want to be. How do you want to show up?

    Then, how can you re-align with that version of yourself?

    I also want to remind you that if this episode found you at some point in the future, know that it is meeting you where you are at.

    You are receiving the message when you are meant to hear it, regardless of the present cosmic energy or season you are in.

    If you know me personally or have been listening to the podcast… you know that emotions and I are synonymous.

    Understanding, accepting, and ultimately learning to love my deep emotional nature has been a lifelong journey. As a highly sensitive person and an empathic deep feeler, this pillar of health is a key focus for me in my life and one that I work through daily.

    Today's pillar of health is Movement… but of course, this is not your typical conversation about exercise. This is mindful movement through the lens of self-care and Ayurveda.

    This episode emphasizes the importance of viewing movement not just as a means to an end, but as a holistic practice that nurtures the body, mind, and spirit.

    We talk about my own journey from viewing exercise as competition through sports, to trying to find where I fit in with fitness, to hating my body and feeling deep shame towards it after an abusive relationship, to ultimately re-discovering this vessel and establishing a healthy relationship with my body through gratitude and mindfulness.

    I encourage movement from a place of play, rather than necessity… with the goal of vitality and longevity, not a number on a scale.

    My hope is that you feel more supported in making your life a moving meditation after this episode.

    It is an honor and a pleasure to be joined by Dr. Sheila Patel today, who is a board-certified family physician with a focus on integrative and lifestyle
    medicine. She combines the wisdom of Ayurveda with the tools of modern medicine to help patients heal. I had the tremendous fortune of being mentored by Dr. Sheila while she was the Chief Medical Officer for Chopra Global for 4 years. She is certified as an instructor of Ayurveda, yoga, and meditation; and is currently serving as the Chief Medical Officer for The Gaja Collective where she is lead educator for the Chopra Ayurvedic health certification program and also teaches for Chopra meditation, yoga, and coaching certifications. Dr. Sheila also offers mentorship programs and retreats, she is a sought-after keynote speaker, she has served on the Clinical Research Team for the Chopra Foundation, with a commitment to bringing scientific validation to mind-body practices, and is the co-author of multiple publications on the subjects of meditation and Ayurveda. Speaking of, I am so excited to share that she has a new book coming out, which she co-authored, called Awakened Sleep, coming out in just a couple short weeks on October 28th, and you can pre-order now below! This book offers readers a pathway toward natural, restful sleep using Ayurvedic principles.


    Dr. Sheila believes the best way to achieve wellness is to integrate all of the knowledge available to us, from modern conventional medicine as well as from traditional healing systems.
