• MAMA "EYE" : Hoodoo Heritage Week 3
    Oct 18 2025

"Where there is a woman , there is magic - Ntozake Shange"

For week 3 of Hoodoo Heritage Month, (With her permission) let me introduce you to Mama "EYE". Originally from New Orleans, Mama "Eye" was traded to a plantation in Georgia, where she spent her entire life rebelling and fighting for black people against the system of slavery. Coming from a strong line of voodoo women, she used her gifts for healing, guidance, and empowerment. Her essence illustrated how often people confuse hoodoo for voodoo or vice versa. Using the confusion to her advantage, check out how Mama "Eye" taught me to see hoodoo as an alchemy to Never downplay my gifts or my importance. Rest in power to the powerful Griots : Stephanie "Tanqueray" Johnson, Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, and D'Angelo

  • JOHN HENRY: Hoodoo Heritage Week 2
    Oct 11 2025

"Hey Hoodoo Who U, I John Henry do Hoodoo U Too"

It's week 2 of Hoodoo Heritage Month as I continue to highlight an ancestor that connects me to the practice. "With their permission" I share their stories and the greatest lessons they taught me. For today's episode, I introduce you to one of my ancestral fathers, John Henry. Born into slavery, John is a master of iron and has the heart of a leader. He single-handedly challenged the perceptions and/or stereotypes about black men, connections to their emotions, and the ability to love. Tune in to learn what this dancing, gentle giant taught me about black men who love. P.S. It's also Gullah Geechee Heritage Month and Happy Black History Month to the UK!

  • Speak LOVE To Me
    Aug 30 2025

Love is one of the most desired, misunderstood, and healing experiences that life has to offer. Noticing, throughout my healing journey, everything pulled me back to love. I developed a longing to live a love life and began questioning my own perceptions of it. Inspiring today's episode, I dive further into the conversation of decolonizing our thoughts of love. Influenced by the work of bell hooks, I explore the concepts of unconditional love, self-love, and socialized influences on love. Vulnerably sharing my own experiences, I'm curious about what true, authentic, real love is. Because don't you deserve a love story?

  • The Beauty of Negativity : A Sankofa Reflection
    Aug 23 2025

What is the point of learning and acquiring knowledge about our history if we don't utilize it when necessary? The symbolism of Sankofa teaches us to look back at our past to understand our present and navigate our future. During my own reflection, it reminded me of one of the most powerful shows I produced in my radio days. The broadcast discussed the need for balance between good and evil, or positivity and negativity. Much of what is happening today is a direct reflection or mirror of past events throughout the decades. Trust and believe, the current events of this year have left us overwhelmed, frustrated, stressed, and grief-stricken. However, the beauty of negativity is that during times of great uncertainty, the most beautiful acts of change can happen too.

  • Whatta' Privilege
    Aug 16 2025

Habari Gani!! In 2014, I took a trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar that began the reckoning of my radical self-love. However, it wasn't just a vacation of sightseeing, good food, and beautiful beaches. I got a crash course on embracing culture, the concept of privilege, and how it contributed to these oppressive systems. Reflecting on current events, I feel we give entirely too much energy to people who refuse to see us as human. Let's work collectively to dismantle, unlearn, and check ourselves to create the best solutions for moving forward. We must invest that time, effort, and energy in ourselves and those who care about us.

  • The Check-IN
    Aug 2 2025

How You Doing, SOUL Vibrant Fam? I bet that's a loaded question to answer. I want to check in with you. Whether you're grieving, making a way outta no way, or in the thick of your healing journey, I see you trying. I'm here to remind you and myself to keep going. This world needs you more than you know. There is a particular type of work, gift, or presence that only YOU can bring. No wonder the evils of this world work overtime to disconnect you from it. It's your Light, your power even. You must discover, use, and protect it. The beauty that death teaches us is that life is the most precious gift we'll ever experience. In addition, grief teaches us to take time to do the most with it. Lock in and continue to do YOUR work.
