  • ‘WALKING MIRACLE’ KATHY BROWN OPENS UP ABOUT HER STAGE 4 CANCER
    Jul 25 2025

In October of 2023, Kathy Brown went home to South Carolina to celebrate her son’s birthday. She never imagined that she’d be diagnosed with stage 4 lung and brain cancer while she was there. The news was so unexpected, it blindsided her completely and she admits to having been in denial, claiming that if it weren’t for everyone around her telling her she had cancer, she would never have known. However, after eleven brain seizures and losing the ability to walk - the gravity of what she was facing began to kick in.

Fast forward to June, 2025 . . . just a few weeks ago and that very same much-loved iconic house music diva flew to London for a few weeks to work with Revival House Project, performing LIVE onstage at Hï Ibiza for Revival’s white island debut, followed by a sunset show at Ibiza’s 7 Pines Resort, overlooking Es Vedra. From there, she returned to London where she recorded four new records in Revival’s studio and performed again with Revival House Project at Hurlingham Club’s Summer Fiesta.

This podcast aims to fill in the blanks between those two paragraphs, and get the T about her big C from the ‘still-very-much’ living legend herself . . . who suggests that we now consider adding ‘A Walking Miracle’ to the list of her many titles.

  • Episode 8: Kathy Brown
    Jul 29 2024

For over three decades now Kathy Brown has been one of house music’s most beloved artists, with a string of hit records that includes Turn Me Out, Joy, Stronger On My Own, You Give Good Love, Another Love, Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher and so many more. She has collaborated with or been remixed by just about every big-name house music producer you can think of, and performed at huge events, parties, clubs and festivals all over the world. The sheer quantity of records in her catalogue is staggering, but even more impressive is the consistency of quality in the productions, and that voice full of thunder which seems to be channelled directly from somewhere up above. For the past year Kathy’s battle with cancer has been widely publicised, inspiring an enormous outpouring of love and support from the dance music community. Defected has released a collection of her records entitled ‘Legacy’ via their imprint Glitterbox, with label profits from the record going towards her healthcare fund, while fans and friends across the globe have joined together to show their support in a myriad of ways, confirming once again that music builds powerful connections and creates families who don’t just show up for the good times, but are there for each other when the going gets tough. As a cherished member of the Revival collective, we are proud to be part of Kathy’s extended family and to share her inimitable vocals with the world once again, this time on our eighth single, Dance To The Music. The song’s message resonates on a deeper level when facing the kinds of challenges that Kathy has been up against. Upon its release, the artist had these words that she wanted to share with the world:

“If you are here today, you need to get on up and dance to this here music. That’s right, I said GET ON UP and Dance To The Music because tomorrow ain’t guaranteed for nobody, and there is NO better use of whatever time you’ve got left than to dance!”

In this podcast we hear where this passion comes from, how it led to a dramatic shift in the course of her career path, and why being a girl in the DJ space means so much to her. It seems like it’s only a matter of time before everyone is going to be saying, ‘Hey Alexa . . . play Alexa Perl.’
