  • Episode 17: Early 90s Horror
    Jun 10 2026

Its 1994 and you walk into a crowded Blockbuster video on a Friday night. It's the weekend and you have to gear up with movies to watch. No new releases -- it's a madhouse over there. Straight to the back, past comedies, past video game rentals. Ah, horror -- just what the doctor ordered! Everyone says horror is dead - the new Jason and Freddy movies sucked. It looks like there might be some good stuff here though. What's this Kevin Bacon movie with the giant worm?

In this episode of the podcast we have a detailed discusson on the old saying, "Scream saved horror." Did it? Did horror need to be saved? We are going to deep dive into the horror movies of 1990-1995 and try and find out why this thought is out there and what may have caused it.

We have two -- count em, TWO -- sleepover guests tonight, Jay of the Dead and Gillman Joel, both long time horror podcasters to discuss this topic. IAre you ready to get real nerdy about horror movies?

While you can find all three of us together at Jay of the Dead's New Horror Movies , you can also get horror cred by listening to Jay's OTHER horror movie podcast (yes, he needs TWO), Horror Movie Weekly.

Aside from his podcasting duties, Gillman Joel has his own video store on Youtube - Mom and Pop Video Shop - subscribe for great retro video rental goodness!

  • Episode 16: 7 Wild and Fascinating Things From the 1970s
    May 22 2026

In this episode of the podcast, we will be discussing some interesting things that happened in the 1970s -- from the breakup of rock n' roll royalty, the christening of theme park royalty, the do-over debut of beloved puppets and beans from south of the border that appeared to jump when exposed to heat.

The 1970s were a wild time transitioning from the politically volatile 1960s into the excess and success of the 1980s, the 1970s were a hodgepodge of pop culture, trend and transition. Variety shows were the hot thing on TV, horror movies were the hot thing in the theaters and guitar heavy rock was the hot thing on the radio.

Let's explore the decade through some the strange but interesting events that took place during it.
