This week the Regular Joes go all in on Tron. Maybe you, like the most of rest of the movie going public did not see Tron: Aries last weekend, but Barry, Dave and Tod did. And, lest you doubt their commitment, they all re-watched Tron (1982) and Tron Legacy (2010). At this point, they pretty much bleed neon.

The results are three different perspectives on the three films, and a sometimes surprising rundown of who liked what.

There’s also a tribute to the late, great artist Drew Struzan, whose iconic imagery, including posters for Back to the Future and Blade Runner, span generations.

Let’s face it, this really is a first world problem. I bought too much stuff and now I’m not sure what to do with it.

This week the Regular Joe’s address, the third phase of collecting. First comes coveting, then comes acquisition, then, like the peripheral dog that caught the car, you have the thing and now you have to find a place to put it.

This all seemed simpler decades ago, when there was seemingly less stuff. In reality, there are far more display options available now than ever before. Some very reasonably priced, If you have the space . . . it all comes down to space. If you’re a collector, an accumulator, or a hoarder you have dealt with similar realities. OK, maybe not so much if you’re a hoarder, but that would be a different episode.

Anyways, there’s some good advice to be had, or at least a bit of commiseration with kindred souls.

You can live in a fascist utopia where everything seems ideal, as long as you don’t look too closely at the uncomfortable details. Or, you can live in a techno-oligarchy, where a handful of mega corporations make all of the decisions for you with little regard beyond their bottom line.

Fortunately, you don’t have to choose, because Peacemaker on HBO Max (I think that’s what it is called this week) and Alien Earth on FX/Hulu let you stick a toe in each universe.

This week, the Regular Joes wrap up the first season of Noah Hawley’s Alien Earth, and discuss the episode six reveal that drives home how little we understood what is actually happening in James Gunn’s Peacemaker season two. Are they good? Let’s just say these two creators excel at getting new life out of existing properties.

In the old Hollywood tradition Robert Redford may well be “the last movie star.” His film career spanned six decades, and included numerous iconic roles. This week the full slate of Regular Joes list their favorite Redford films, ranging from the epic to the obscure. And whether you favor the Sundance kid, Jeremiah Johnson, Jay Gatsby, Bob Woodward, or Roy Hobbs, Redford brought an endearing charisma and charm to every role in every era.

His subsequent work as an Oscar winning filmmaker, activist, and proponent for independent films leave a legacy few can ever match. We will not see his kind again.

Months ago, Tod saw, and recommended Companion (2025), the Jack Quaid, Sophie Thatcher dark comedy that Google lists as as a “Horror, Thriller, Science Fiction, Romance.” On Rotten Tomatoes it comes in at 93%. On IMDB. It’s a 6.9.

Recently, Dave stumbled upon it and suggested Barry watch as well. To say “opinions vary” on this one is kind of an understatement. Apparently a lot of it comes down to the expectations you go in with … like if you’ve never read the introductory blurb, or seen the trailer, you might be surprised by something other than what the studio intended. Maybe you should also just watch.

At first glance, there seem to be no similarities between the sci-fi series, Alien Earth (FX/Hulu), and the second season of Peacemaker (HBO). But both are offshoots of existing franchises, shepherded by creators with unique, and often, visceral styles.

To date Noah Hawley‘s Alien Earth has proven anything but predictable, while redefining the nature of “Alien” threats. Who knew a sheep could be that creepy.

Over in the DC universe, or in at least two of them, James Gunn is actively disproving the idea that the multiverse concept is played out. As he takes his flawed protagonist even further down by showing him the flipside of his own bad life choices.

In its third season Strange New Worlds has gone a long way towards living up to the first word in its title. From its inception, the pre-Kirk (somewhat) Enterprise series promised to avoid the long drawn out arcs that bogged down its predecessor Star Trek: Discovery.

No one anticipated the bizarre, random, series of non sequiturs we’ve been served up this season. While there have been some funny bits, and a few noteworthy bits, most of the seven episodes to date have left viewers scratching their heads.

This week, Barry, Brian, Dave and Tod break down the season so far and ask, can the series be saved? Opinions vary, mostly About "Four and a Half Vulcans."

There are many who argue that the Alien film series lost its mojo way back on LV-476.

The horror / thriller /sci-fi franchise created by Ridley Scott, and given a pulse rifle shot-in-the-arm by James Cameron, seemed like it would never regain its former glory or so we thought until last year’s Alien Romulus made us rethink that equation. Now, Noah Hawley (Legion, Fargo) brings the saga back home.

This week, the Regular Joe’s take a first look at Alien Earth, a very different approach to the Alien(s) universe.
