  • Read To Me: Sherlock Holmes in The Five Orange Pips
    Sep 8 2024

The Five Orange Pips is my latest podcast in the series of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's favourite Sherlock Holmes short stories.

The five pips, packaged in blue paper, are a death threat. The message is that the person should comply with a demand or die.

This is one of only two Sherlock Holmes short stories where Holmes' client dies after seeking his help; the other being "The Adventure of the Dancing Men," featured in an earlier podcast.

Here is The Final Problem, one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's favourite Sherlock Holmes stories. In this episode, we are introduced to the criminal mastermind, Professor Moriarty. Holmes has discovered that nearly all crimes committed in London are the work of one gang headed by one man, Professor Moriarty, whom Holmes acknowledges as his intellectual equal.

    Up next: The Empty House.
