  • When Districts Don’t Coordinate, Families Pay the Price
    Mar 19 2026

Spring Break is supposed to be the "light at the end of the tunnel"—so why does it feel like a logistical trap this year?

In this episode of Ray Talks Live, we’re tackling the frustration of the "Mismatched Break." For those of us living in one district and working in another, the "higher-ups" downtown have effectively cancelled spring break for thousands of coaching, teaching, and administrative families.

I’m sharing my personal reality living in one county but working in the neighboring county's school district. What happens when your kids are off one week, but you’re still in the classroom? We discuss the "childcare" scramble, the missed family memories, and the sheer inconvenience of neighboring districts failing to align their calendars. It’s a raw look at the disconnect between district planning and the human reality of the people who make the schools run.

  • Before the Pink Slip: Where Were the Admins, Coaches, and Veterans?
    Mar 19 2026

When a teacher is fired, we often ask "What did they do wrong?" but we rarely ask "Who failed to help them do it right?"

In this deep-dive episode of Ray Talks Live, we’re tackling the uncomfortable reality of teacher terminations. As a veteran educator who has seen departments thrive and crumble, I’m looking beyond the standard "poor classroom management" excuse. We’re asking the hard questions about the safety net that should have been there:

    • The Behavior Gap: When did we stop distinguishing between a teacher's management and a student’s unchecked behavior?
    • The Support Mirage: Where were the instructional coaches and administrators when the data first started to dip? Was there a "Support Plan" or just a "Paper Trail"?
    • The Departmental Silence: In a field that prides itself on collaboration, where were the seasoned veterans?

We’re discussing the "shared responsibility" of teacher success and why a firing is often a failure of leadership and mentorship as much as it is a failure of instruction. Join me for a transparent conversation on how we can better protect the profession by protecting each other.

  • The Clipboard Crisis: Do Observations Actually Help Teachers?
    Mar 17 2026

Does your heart drop when you see an administrator walk in with a clipboard, or do you see it as a chance to grow?

In this episode of Ray Talks Live, we’re pulling back the curtain on one of the most stressful rituals in education: the Teacher Observation. After 20 years in the classroom, I’ve seen it all—from the supportive mentors who truly want to help you reach the next generation to the "I Gotcha!" administrators who seem to be looking for a reason to check a "developing" box.

We’re getting real about the "Dog and Pony Show" we all perform when the door opens, and asking the hard questions: Is this process truly beneficial for student learning? What works—and what definitely doesn’t—when it comes to administrative feedback? Join me for a transparent conversation on administrative intent, professional trust, and how we can move from a culture of "gotcha" to a culture of genuine support.
