They've been great friends since University over 40 years ago and still work together. Who are they? Just listen in to find out! Peter Stamp said it correctly 'You guys are some of the unsung heroes of CIUT.

On Zoom from Ottawa, they explained how it all came about they were Electrical Engineers who found CIUT's former incarnation as Radio Varsity which became CJUT (still a hard wired campus radio club). The club was applying for that illusive FM broadcast license and needed new equipment installed, as well as a 15,000 watt transmitter and these were the guys who did it. They were 22, college kids and took on this task and got us one their air by December 1986 testing out the equipment before officially going on air January 15, 1987. It was great talking with these guys so listen in and enjoy them.

This week's guest is Marco Landini, host of Electrophonic Tonic (The Best Stuff You Haven't Heard) which airs Tuesdays at noon. A most interesting guest, Marco started out by helping at CIUT in the late 2000s. He did a lot of fill-ins but after moving to Hamilton, he left us in the mid - 2010s. However, after returning to Toronto during the pandemic years, he got involved with the station again, pestering Ken Stowar to give him his own radio show.

David Kingston arrived at CIUT last summer (2025) but it took over 50 years to get here. He began broadcasting at CKLN in 1982, a year before they got their FM licence. At that time, just after Bob Marley's death, reggae music was greatly undervalued and under-represented in Toronto so he wanted to change that. And he did. He spent ten years there. However, life intervened and he didnt return to the radio dial until last year. So this week we feature David, producer and hots of Kingston Town.

This being the 100th edition of Radio Recall, we'll be taking the summer off - replaying shows from the past - before coming back home in September.

Dave Bidini of the Rheostatics (46 years a band), was once a volunteer programmer at CIUT in the late 1980s. After several years of doing a show with co-host Dave Bookman, Dave is coming back (nearly four decades later) with his new show to be called West Phoenix News about journalist in today's age.

Meanwhile, Dave is busy promoting his latest Rheostatics record The Great Lakes. Hear him talk about Rush's Alex Lifeson, his books on hockey, Gord Lightfoot, and a whole lot of other incrdibly interesting things on this our 101th broadcast.

This week we welcome Rob Bowman, a Grammy Award winning scholar. While he never had a show at CIUT, Rob spent several years at CKLN producing his Trout Mask Airshow. Prior to that he worked at a Memphis based radio station in the early 1980s and even before that had a show at Radio York which was closed circuit (prior to obtaining an FM broadcast license re CHRY). He has been nominated several times for a Grammy due to his extensive liner notes and track record. He explains how he spent a month in Australia with the Rolling Stones, his 6 hr. interview with Lou Reed and how he got them to cough up the goods. It's a lot to unpack so let's get started.

Nilan Perrera has worn many hats at CIUT, from a time just before we went FM for about 16 years. During that time he was on the Music Committee, the Board of Ds, he was Program Dirextor a few times and at the centre of thing. Besides hosting his jazz program, In Through The Outside, he is a guitar player and he continues to perform to this date. Nilan's first time back in a long time gone.

How does an undergraduate student at the U of T cope with having a day job, going to school and doing a weekly radio show? Jasmine Chow has all the answers because she's been doing that! She's young, articulate, has a great personality and has been doing a great job as host of 'The Wave Form' heard Tuesday afternoons at 4 pm. She's our special guest this week on Radio Recall, on our 97th program.

This week we welcome Jesse McDougall, producer of Tracks From Abroad, a student oriented program which focused on foreign students who attended U of Toronto and what they brought to Canada with them.

Jesse was a CIUT volunteer already, having worked a pre-pandemic funding drive. He then put together a proposal for Tracks from Abroad that we couldn't say no to. Although the show ran its course, Jesse tells us how it came about, what it achieved and little known secrets about the music foreign students brought with them to Canada.
