  • Radio Recall - Jesse McDougall
    Jun 6 2026

This week we welcome Jesse McDougall, producer of Tracks From Abroad, a student oriented program which focused on foreign students who attended U of Toronto and what they brought to Canada with them.

Jesse was a CIUT volunteer already, having worked a pre-pandemic funding drive. He then put together a proposal for Tracks from Abroad that we couldn't say no to. Although the show ran its course, Jesse tells us how it came about, what it achieved and little known secrets about the music foreign students brought with them to Canada.

  • Radio Recall 95 - Femi from Afro Alte
    Apr 21 2026

This week we welcome a relatively new programmer at CIUT - Femi, host of Afro Alte show heard Sunday mornings at 6 a.m. He began his radio experience volunteering at a campus radio station in his native Lagos, Nigeria around 2010. He came to Canada five years ago to attend the U of T and got involved with CIUT. At first he was a board teck working with Cheri DiNovo on her excellent program The Radical Reverend. But I don't want to say any more here because Femi's show, which is gaining popularity, explains it best, this week in conversation with Peter Stamp and myself, Steve Fruitman.

  • RR89 - Jen Leonard - Massive Change
    Mar 10 2026

This interview was via zoom, linking Jennifer Leonard with us from Portland Oregon where she currently lives (she'll be moving to Baltimore shortly). Jen began her career as a rock critic, actually working for Rolling Stone magazine. After a year - due to visa issues - she returned to Toronto and started taking a course in the theory behind Design. During her stay in Toronto, she talked her way into hosting her own radio program at CIUT (2002-5) called Massive Change. She used some of her interviews to write a book called Massive Change which was written up in major international publications. A fascinating career developed because of it. Oh, and the conversation she had with Peter and I was just as fascinating too!
