  • #019 Healing Trauma and Complex PTSD (CPTSD): Shadow Work and Carl Jung's answer to Trauma
    Jun 2 2025

Hi, I am Harry Venice and I am an Attachment, Trauma, and Jungian Therapist. I am also certified to score Adult Attachment Interviews for Reflective Function for clinical and research purposes.

    👉 Book 1:1s with me at www.harryvenice.com

Complex PTSD or CPTSD is a real disorder with real consequences. It was recently added to the ICD-11 as a diagnosis. CPTSD is similar to PTSD, but is much more complicated due to the long term nature of the trauma & abuse suffered.

In Part 2 of my special lecture on trauma, I explain how Carl Jung identified a key common element he found in his patients who suffered extreme traumas: they 'outgrew' and adapted from their trauma. They contextualized it. It wasnt a problem that simply 'solved'. This Jungian view is consistent with the latest research & neuroscience on trauma memory & flashbacks.

In this lecture I address the following via the below Chapters:

00:00:00 - EMDR vs Exposure Therapy & trauma memory processing
00:01:00 - Complex trauma needs many modalities
00:01:45 - Carl Jung said we must "OUTRGOW" Trauma
    00:02:21 - FLASHBACKS
00:03:56 - Trauma and The Shadow
00:06:21 - Trauma is in the BODY
    00:06:43 - The Unconscious Mind & Trauma
    00:08:14 - C-PTSD: Isolation & Dysregulation
00:10:02 - You need a 'Secure Base' / Safe Therapist for Trauma Processing
00:12:49 - Summary of Trauma Healing
00:16:08 - "Authority!: you must AUTHOR your own story
00:19:05 - Healing the HOLE IN YOUR HEART

  • #018 The Final step to overcome Trauma and Complex PTSD (CPTSD): Neuroscience, Flashbacks Carl Jung's answer to Trauma
    Feb 16 2025

How does the Neuroscience of Complex PTSD meet with Carl Jung?!

I explore that in this episode.

Neuroscience provides the foundations. Carl Jung provides a final step.

Complex PTSD or CPTSD is a real disorder with real consequences. It was recently added to the ICD-11 as a diagnosis. CPTSD is similar to PTSD, but is much more complicated due to the long term nature of the trauma and abuse suffered.

In todays special lecture I summarise the key neuroscience behind trauma memory and flashbacks. I then explain how Carl Jung identified a key common element he found in his patients who suffered extreme traumas: they 'outgrew' and adapted from their trauma. They contextualized it. It wasnt a problem that simply 'solved'.

This lecture and this quote from Jung are the most important lesson for those with trauma. It is wisdom. More than science. Of course I break down the neuroscience and evidence as well... but complex trauma or complex ptsd is called 'complex' for a reason. It truly effects a person's entire identity and soul. It requires alot of resilience and adaptability of attitude to outgrow it. We don't 'solve' it... but rather we outgrow it and adapt.

Part 2 of the lecture is dropping next week.

  • #017 Psychology and Alchemy: an introduction to Carl Jung’s Psychology secret (Intensity, heat, CONFLICT, Shadow)
    Feb 11 2025

In Psychology Deep Dive podcast episode 17, Harry Venice provides a mini lecture which is an ‘Introduction to Carl Jung’s Alchemy’. We focus on Carl Jung’s text ‘Alchemical Studies’ (Collected Work 13) because it is a great introductory text for this difficult topic. In the beginning of this book, Jung discusses the classic Alchemical text: 'The Secret of the Gold Flower' by Richard Wilhelm.

Learning the psychology of Carl Jung’s alchemy also helps with our attachment, trauma history and shadow integration which Carl Jung said was a key to shadow work and Jungian psychology. These shadow elements also relate to attachment styles, attachment styles, attachment theory, CPTSD, and trauma.

  • #016 Live with Passion: the power of Shadow and Attachment
    Jan 29 2025

In Psychology Deep Dive podcast episode 16, Harry Venice explores the importance of living with passion and not wasting your life. It starts with small acts of letting go and getting outside of your comfort zone. These things are also linked to our attachment, trauma history and need for shadow intergration which Carl Jung said was a key to shadow work and Jungian psychology.

During this episode Harry also focuses on attachment, secure attachment and emotional attunement. These attachment styles or attachment patterns from our parents really effect our adult choices and shame. Much of this shame can lead to not following authentic paths and not living an authentic path full of passion. This is reflected most often in career choices and feeling "stuck".

These shadow elements also relate to attachment styles, attachment styles, attachment theory, cptsd, and trauma.

  • #015 Baby Girl movie: sex, power and love addiction is not what it seems (the Black Dog symbol and Shadow Work)
    Jan 28 2025

In Psychology Deep Dive podcast episode 15, Harry Venice explores the shadow through the "Baby Girl" movie netflix starring Nicole Kidman and Antonio Banderas. This movie explores the shadow symbol of the black dog which also appears in Goethe's book "Faust". Faust is a book which Carl Jung said was a key to shadow work and Jungian psychology.

The movie Baby girl begins with a black dog appearing and a young man who can control the dog. Nicole Kidman is a powerful CEO but she is afraid of the dog, afraid of her shadow. Yet this young man who is an intern at her company can control the dog and has no fear. This symbol and psychological moment sets the scene for the entire movie. In fact, the movie begins with the black dog symbol and ends with the black dog symbol.

The movie is highly erotic and sexual. I was not ready for the intensity of the sex scenes when I started eating my popcorn! However, it was a great movie. When I saw the black dog in the opneing scene, I immediately thought of Carl Jung, shadow work, and the black dog symbol in Goethe's Faust! I also note that the black dog discussions here are relevant for dream analysis and dream interpretation.

Abit more about Faust and the black dog as a context for its relevance to the netflix movie Baby Girl: Shadow work has its roots in the story of "Faust" by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Carl Jung often wrote about the book of Faust and the Black Dog which appears in that story. The dog represents the shadow. This is the Jungian Psychology concept of the shadow, commonly known now as shadow work.

The shadow also relates to attachment styles, attachment styles, attachment theory, cptsd, and trauma.

Topics: shadow work, jungian analysis, jungian analyst near me, jungian therapist, jungian psychology, archetypes, shadow work prompts, shadow work meaning, shadow work carl jung, shadow work exercises, shadow work journal, shadow work guided meditation, shadow work reddit, attachment therapist near me, cptsd meaning, trauma, complex trauma, attachment theory, attachment styles, carl jung jungian dream analysis, carl jung jungian dream interpretation
