In 1949, Roland reportedly experienced terrifying phenomena that witnesses described as unexplained noises, violent outbursts, strange marks appearing on his body, and objects seemingly moving without explanation. Catholic priests were eventually called in to perform an exorcism.

Years later, author William Peter Blatty used the case as inspiration for The Exorcist. While the movie changed and dramatized many details, eerie similarities remain between Roland's reported experiences and some of the most disturbing events portrayed on screen.
