Neurospicy Dialogues is where curiosity and chaos collide - in the best possible way. Hosts Cara Jean Wilson and Kimberly Jürgen spark impromptu conversations about how gloriously complex our brains really are. It’s unscripted, unapologetic, and seasoned just right - part science, part sass, all real. Neurospicy Dialogues turns one, and Kimberly and Cara open Season 2 with the curtain pulled all the way back. Listeners get the friend-time check-in that usually happens before recording, a birthday candle blown out hard enough to knock Cara's camera over and Kimberly drawing the word live: pumpkin. Cara's first stop is a holiday shift at Outback Steakhouse, where one guest took "my little pumpkin head" as an insult.

From there the vine curls everywhere. Linus and the most sincere pumpkin patch, why older spooky shows leave room for the emotion, Snoopy drawing lessons from the back of a magazine, doodling as a memory trick and a full cross-examination of whether pumpkin spice has any pumpkin in it. Kimberly's ruling: it's "spice for pumpkin".

Then Kimberly admits she's really good at seeing how anything could go horribly wrong, which is great for a writer and not so great for a house guest. The two talk through pattern recognition as a survival skill, how curiosity turns it into exploration and what Kimberly's brand-new Apple Watch had to say about the great sleep she thought she was getting.

Fifty-two episodes, fifty-one words. For the Season 1 finale, Kimberly reads back every word they've followed down a rabbit hole this year, in order, from "lexicon" to "humble", and Cara notices you can almost watch what was happening in the world around them. Before they get to the list there's a detour through Animaniacs, Darkwing Duck and a pair of very polite cartoon critters who stop mid-chase to say "after you". Along the way Cara mulls a switch to a 13-month calendar, and a lamprey bite mark gets nominated as the show's future logo.

Then they look at what the year gave them. For Kimberly, whose work doesn't come with a 9-to-5, the show became her routine in a year that was all over the map. Cara calls it the consistency of their novelty. They talk about why the show is named for the philosophical dialogues of ancient Greece, the difference between explaining a tangent as an apology and as a roadmap, masking as an oxygen mask you choose to put on, and a new show's neurospicy character whose every line is spicy.

"I don't need you to fix the thing that shows up... I just need enough structure to hold it."

  • 151 Humble
    Oct 12 2026

Kimberly and Cara take on "humble", and Kimberly's brain goes straight to Hubble, the telescope that looks a little humble next to the new ones hunting dark matter. From there it's gaps in space, an icebreaker invented on the spot (ask people what's happening where they're from, then let them pick the topic), why the premise is the real horror in the robot-girlfriend movie trend, South Park punching up and a grandmother's "pride goeth before a fall" (was it only meant for the girls?).

Then it gets deep. Kimberly tracks the dominoes back to the fork in the road when something seems to come out of nowhere. Cara shares her revelation of the week, the hustle cult pattern, and the story of a grandmother who set down the whisk during holiday dinner prep and said "No, I don't!" The two land on how "humble" got used to punish people instead of lift them up, and what it looks like to take pride back.

"You don't have to be more humble. You just don't use it to humble others."
