The Edmonton Oilers have Connor McDavid. They have Leon Draisaitl. They have the talent to compete for the Stanley Cup.
So why does this team still feel like it's missing something?
In this episode of Mid-Ice Crisis, Josh looks at two problems Edmonton needs to address: goaltending and forward depth.
The Oilers don't necessarily need another superstar. They need an NHL-calibre goaltender who can deliver reliable saves when the games matter most.
If Edmonton is serious about winning a Stanley Cup with McDavid and Draisaitl, they can't keep hoping their biggest weaknesses will fix themselves.
The window is open.
The question is whether the Oilers will do something about it.
Is Edmonton a goalie and a depth forward away from being a legitimate Stanley Cup contender?

The Toronto Maple Leafs have completely reinvented themselves heading into the 2026-27 NHL season, but did they actually get better? Josh Cybulski breaks down John Chayka's first offseason as GM, the hiring of Jim Hiller, the arrival of first-overall pick Gavin McKenna, and the massive changes to Toronto's roster.
He dives into the Leafs' biggest offseason gamble: acquiring Kirill Marchenko and immediately handing him a massive contract while sending Matthew Knies to Columbus. Josh also looks at the Sergei Bobrovsky gamble, Darren Raddysh's enormous contract, and whether Toronto has finally built a team that can play a different style of hockey.
The Leafs are different; they're unpredictable, and for better or worse, Toronto hockey is about to get very interesting.

The NHL is about to get ugly. Training camp is winding down, NHL teams are
getting closer to their 23-man rosters, and some extremely difficult decisions
are coming. On
this episode of Mid-Ice Crisis, Josh breaks down the players who could find
themselves on the waiver wire — including some former high draft picks and
young NHLers who could be claimed if their teams aren't careful. We
also look at the unresolved Connor Hellebuyck/Winnipeg Jets saga and discuss what happens when a player wants out but the team
isn't willing to accept the offers coming back. Finally, we look at the Ottawa Senators' changing identity after former
captain Brady Tkachuk's departure. Josh also examines who could emerge as Ottawa's next captain and
discusses why the best player isn't necessarily the best
leader. And,
as always, Josh wants to hear from you: Who should be the next captain of the Ottawa
Senators? And
what do you think happens with Connor Hellebuyck and the Winnipeg Jets? Drop
your thoughts in the comments. Mid-Ice Crisis is available on YouTube and podcast
