    In this conversation, Dr. Marie Feuer speaks with Alexis Kur—a high school special education teacher, mental health advocate, speaker, and person living with Dissociative Identity Disorder—about the many parts of being human.


    They explore Dissociative Identity Disorder, the usefulness and limitations of diagnosis, and how labels can sometimes help us understand our experiences without defining who we are. They also discuss special education, trauma, identity, advocacy, and what it means to live differently in a world that often pathologizes difference.


    ABOUT ALEXIS KUR

    Alexis is a high school special education teacher, mental health advocate, speaker, and founder of Permission to Define. After 15 years in a successful environmental consulting career, she chose to redefine success and pursue work centered on education, advocacy, and human connection.


    Today, Alexis works with teenage boys in high school special education while using her professional and lived experience to challenge stigma surrounding trauma, Dissociative Identity Disorder, disability, and identity.


    Her work is grounded in a simple belief: people should never be reduced to a diagnosis, a label, or someone else’s definition of who they are allowed to become.

    Everybody is different and each situation is different. No session is like another session.... And there is no one methodology applied like peanut butter to everybody. This is someone who has studied with me on and off for a while. Came around at first and then left for a few years and came back and was willing and actually wanted to record the session to be used for a podcast. This is not how every session goes nor is what I am telling him what I have told anybody else. So please don't turn this into oh this is what life path healings does. No this is one small example of what one person experienced with me. It's impossible to explain the work we do here and of course we can't record the silence is in the energy that happens and the emotional reactions that people go through and the energy shifts they go through. There's just no words.. So not only is this one example It's one example that uses words. There's some video on YouTube that might show some other experiences But that's like looking at the menue and then thinking you had the meal. But at least it's The best we can do because you can't experience energy by watching or listening.
