    ABOUT SGGT

SGGT is known for its unique, detailed 4, 6, 8, PW iron fittings at our flagship Edinburgh, Glasgow and Chesterfield studios. Where as many fitters use only 7 iron to fit an iron set, SGGT goes through the bag to find you the best fit for your game.

WHAT SHOULD YOU LOOK FOR IN A CLUB FITTER

We realise not everyone lives near an SGGT but here's what to look for to get the best club fitting experience. Here's what we have - try to match it with the fitter you choose.

    • FITTING ACROSS IRON SETS. 4, 6, 8 irons & PW in stock to test in all sets - Not just a 7 iron. This not only makes sure that the whole sets fits you but makes fittings for blended sets accurate.

    • INDOOR AND OUTDOOR - An opportunity to test off mats & grass, indoor & outdoor during the fitting. It's the only way to see the true ball flight and test turf interaction. Plus you still get the benefits of our Trackman launch monitors. With modern iron and wedge sole grinds, you need to hit them off grass to know if they work for you.

    • Completely BRAND INDEPENDENT so you're guaranteed unbiased advice

    • LARGEST HEAD/SHAFT SELECTION in Europe. We have the biggest matrix with most combinations..

    • PREMIUM BALLS - Fitting with range balls doesn't give you a real picture. We use the likes of ProV1s, ProV1x, TP5, Callaway balls etc o make sure you're seeing the clubs perform like they do on the course.

    • CHOICE OF GRIP DURING FITTING - We'll put your preferred grip on the clubs you're testing.

We haven't found anywhere else yet that offers all this. So, is SGGT the "World's Best Iron Fitting?". We'd be genuinely curious to know if anyone else goes to these lengths to get you the best fitting experience possible. Please do get in touch if you think there is.

Please Note: There are regional service variations offered at our Netherlands studios. Please contact them for details.

If you'd like to experience an iron fitting on this level then contact our Edinburgh, Glasgow or Chesterfield studios - or book online at www.sggt.co.uk

  • HOW YOUR BODY AFFECTS YOUR GOLF FITTING
    Feb 11 2026
⏱ Episode Guide – EP003 Club Fitters Question Time

    00:00 – 01:02

How to submit questions (comments / socials / email)

    01:02 – 05:40

Do body proportions influence swing tendencies & fitting choices?

    – Height/arm/leg length vs lie angle myths

    – Why “ball flight is king” beats crib-sheet fitting

    – Example: tall golfer fits standard length but upright

    05:40 – 11:49

Fitting when your body changes (RA, knee replacement, slower swing)

    – Why fitting becomes more important with physical changes

    – Comfort + consistency focus

    – Case study: arthritis golfer—graphite wasn’t the answer; weight + vibration damping + grip choice was

    – Grip build example: oversized grip without killing swing weight (Win 50g OS)

    11:49 – 14:45

How much can grips change performance?

    – Grip size/weight affecting swing weight + release

    – Don’t criticise “quick wins” if the golfer improves

    – Thickness vs material (building up can thin rubber and feel firmer)

    14:45 – 15:43

    Have my short-club lofts changed?

    – Check on a loft/lie machine + validate gapping on the monitor

    – Sometimes the clubs haven’t changed—you have

    15:43 – 20:23

SST shaft puring vs adjustable hosels

    – What “puring” is (orienting the stable/hard plane)

    – Adapters are a fitting tool; ideally you shouldn’t need to keep tinkering post-fit

    – If settings do change, build shop can pull/rotate/reinstall to restore orientation

    – “Adapter = icing on the cake” after correct head/shaft build

    20:23 – End

How to ask a question or book a fitting.

  • RORY MCILROY SWITCH IRONS - Blades to P.7CB Cavity Backs
    Feb 11 2026
Episode Guide – EP002 Club Fitters Question Time

    00:00 – 01:09

Welcome back + how to submit questions (comments / social / email)

    01:09 – 03:12

How soon after release can SGGT custom-fit new clubs?

    – Manufacturer availability, embargo windows, pre-launch fitting

    03:12 – 05:30

New product season buzz + what’s coming

    – “Distance season”, fitter “cheat codes”

    – Lawrence’s one-of-one DIY raw iron grind project

    – Rory McIlroy iron switch chat (blades → P7CB testing)

    05:30 – 11:24

Best prep for a fitting + best questions to ask your fitter

    – Be clear on goals (distance vs control vs gapping)

    – Looks/feel/sound matter (not just TrackMan numbers)

    – Know your course/conditions; wear golf shoes

    – “Don’t fit to satisfy TrackMan—fit to satisfy the golfer”

    11:24 – 15:42

Mini Driver vs Strong 3-Wood for position tee shots

    – Head size/forgiveness vs off-the-deck playability

    – When mini driver is the “banker” club

    – Higher-loft mini drivers (15°) + regional differences (more 7/9 woods “down south”)

    – Link to Scott Fraser mini-driver video context

    15:42 – 20:37

TaylorMade MG5 forged wedges – feel, spin, grinds + why grass fitting matters

    – Best TM wedge iteration / “complete line”

    – Grinds as the real fitting lever

    – Mats can mislead bounce choices; grass is king

    – SGGT wedge matrix depth (100+ heads, left-handed options)

    20:39 – 24:11

Building a “team” like the pros: golfer + coach + fitter

    – Cohesion between coaching intent and equipment

    – Sometimes the “fault” is the club, not the swing

    – Proper fit can reduce “major surgery” in lessons

    24:11 – 28:43

Full-bag fitting order (including the ball): what comes first and why

    – Driver early (max speed, avoid fatigue)

    – Irons baseline → bridge long-game gaps → wedges last

    – Ball: prioritise putter feel + driver performance

    – Why splitting sessions can be better than one 4-hour marathon

    28:43 – End

    Book your fitting
