Three unsettling encounters with presences that could be heard, sensed, and even smelled—but never fully explained.
In “The Crying Beyond the Mine,” two friends travel into a remote mountain mining camp to test a powerful new flashlight. When one remains behind while the other explores an abandoned gold mine, a strange sound begins drifting through the darkness from somewhere farther up the road.
Next, a Lost Ghost Story called “The Smell of Someone Else.” A man living in a newer Patterson home repeatedly returns to find the unmistakable smell of body odor in his empty living room. The odor comes and goes without explanation, accompanied by fleeting movement and objects that refuse to remain where he left them.
Finally, in “Two Hours Away,” a long-distance relationship leads to frequent visits to an ordinary San Jose apartment—one where a young woman usually believes she is alone. But a series of strange incidents raises a disturbing question: when no one else is supposed to be there, who—or what—is inside with her?
