  • S5:E2 | How We Learn to Trust: The Science of Attachment & Relationships
    Oct 20 2026

How do we learn to trust others, seek support, and navigate relationships?

In this episode of Good Sex @ NYU, host Danielle Elleman speaks with Dr. Theodore Waters, associate professor of psychology at NYU Abu Dhabi, about the science of attachment and how our experiences shape expectations of trust and care.

Together, they explore how early relationships influence adult intimacy, why social support matters for our wellbeing, and how cultural expectations around emotional vulnerability can shape the ways we seek connection.

From childhood to adulthood, our experiences shape how we relate to others. Understanding these patterns can help us better recognize what we need and how we support the people in our lives.

  • S5:E1 | The Art of Intimacy
    Sep 22 2026

What can art teach us about intimacy, healing, identity, and connection? 🎨

In this episode of Good Sex @ NYU, Danielle Elleman talks with Anel Flores, a writer, visual artist, educator, and cultural organizer whose work centers queer liberation, ancestral healing, storytelling, and community.

Anel shares how embracing her queer identity led her to reconnect with her Chicana and border culture, create new forms of belonging, and use art to explore ancestral wounds.

Drawing from her books Empanada and Curtains of Rain, she explores how intimacy can extend beyond romance and sex to include food, land, friendship, chosen family, and queer community.

Danielle and Anel also reflect on pleasure, vulnerability, grief, joy, failure, and the stories we carry.

Anel also shares some of the queer and sensual literature that has inspired her:

    • Evohé: Poemas Eróticos by Cristina Peri Rossi

    • Sor Juana’s Love Poems

    • Little Birds by Anaïs Nin

    • You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero

What stories live within us? What becomes possible when we give ourselves permission to create?
