Go Nevada Mo – Episode 8The Forgotten Crossroads: Nevada’s Overlooked Highway Intersection

In this episode, we dive into a surprising piece of Nevada, Missouri’s past — a discovery that reshapes how we understand early American road history. Local researchers and members of the Jefferson54 group have uncovered evidence that the first transcontinental highway and the first international highway once met right here in Nevada.

We explore how the Atlantic & Pacific Highway and the Jefferson Highway briefly converged in 1916, running together through town before the rise of the numbered U.S. highway system and the cultural takeover of Route 66 pushed their stories into obscurity.

You’ll hear how old railroad bridges, early roadbeds, and shifting alignments reveal a forgotten junction hiding in plain sight — and why this matters not just for Nevada, but for the broader story of American travel.

We also look at the unanswered questions, including the mystery of Osage Boulevard’s construction, and how solving it could further clarify Nevada’s role in early highway development.

If you love Missouri history, old roads, or uncovering the stories beneath our everyday landscape, this episode brings a fresh perspective to a hometown landmark that deserves recognition.
