This Podcast is about the New Yorkers that now live in Florida. Real stories, real people, real moments happening both in New York and Florida.

Besitos to you, I'm your host Lizzette Perez. I moved to Florida as a teen and at first hated Florida. I wanted to move back but I started a career in Radio soon after high school and slowly fell in love with Orlando which is New Yorks 6th Borough!

I hope you enjoy this podcast! Subscribe and tell me why you left New York for Florida! I would love to hear your story on the show one day!

  • A Spanish Harlem New Yorker Joins A Poly Family In Florida with Reality TV Star Yahweh Madi
    Aug 17 2026

Leave A Voice Message Or A Text Message Here!

She moved from Spanish Harlem to Florida for love and landed inside a family structure most people only argue about online.

Yahweh Madi joins me for a raw, funny, and surprisingly tender conversation about what it means to be a New Yorker in Florida while trying not to lose your voice, your edge, or your sense of home.

We get into the real mechanics of poly life, including how their dynamic works, why communication is the only way it survives, and what it feels like to walk into an established household as the new partner. Madi talks about meeting Yahweh Poetic on social media, thinking he might be fake, and then making a life-changing move in just a couple months. We also talk about the parts that do not fit neatly on TV: jealousy triggers, fairness, being heard, and the pressure of living under constant opinions.

Then we zoom out to the New York to Florida transition so many listeners relate to: the “customer service voice,” feeling misunderstood for being direct, missing bodegas and 24 hour energy, and learning Florida basics like humidity, lovebug season, and where the real vibe is when you need a reset. Madi shares what helps her come back to herself, plus her work as an ophthalmic technician, her love of the beach, and what she is building next as an author and creator, including The Lies We Carry and Just a Reflection of You: A 30 Day Affirmation journal.

Trust Mula is one of the hottest independent hip-hop artists making noise right now. His hit record “On The Run” is getting radio play across New York City, with legendary Hot 97 DJ Funk Flex showing him major love.

In this episode of From Apple to Oranges, Trust Mula opens up about his rise in the music industry, the controversy surrounding his beef with other New York City DJs, and why Orlando has him thinking about making Central Florida his second home.

Also joining the conversation is his cousin Eric, owner of The Munchies Shack in Winter Springs, Florida. Eric shares why he loves both New York and Florida—and tells us why food lovers need to try what many call Orlando’s only authentic Chopped Cheese.

This conversation is serious, yet full of laughs, unexpected moments, and real talk you won’t hear anywhere else.

A lot of people say they’re “moving to Florida for a fresh start.” Jae Johnson actually did it, and what started as a vacation from Queens turned into decades in Orlando, a family, and a whole legacy in the city’s nightlife. We talk about Queensbridge and Astoria roots, what it feels like to realize there’s a bigger world outside your block, and why New Yorkers can’t stop talking about where they’re from even after they leave.

Jae breaks down the real differences between New York City and Florida living: the heat that changes how you move, the space that’s hard to give up, and the culture shock of Orlando clubs when you’re used to NYC rules. We also get into the cost of going back, and how one rent number can end the dream fast. Then the conversation shifts into the stuff people don’t always say out loud: how kids change your timeline, how caregiving and disability support shape where you live, and why community can matter as much as money when you’re building a life.

Jae also shares how he helped create a lane for old school parties and brunch vibes in Orlando, and why New York’s mix of cultures still sets the standard for him.

Subscribe, share the episode with your favorite ex-New Yorker, and leave a review if the show speaks to you. Where are you listening from, and what’s the one thing you’ll always carry from home?
