“I think the first thing is to know what you want to achieve. Have some really good discussions with your finance team, procurement, corporate affairs - whoever is involved in this process. Ask yourselves: are you going to set targets, are you just trying to comply, or do you actually want your supply base to reduce their emissions? Because that will inform some of the decisions that you are going to make, particularly when in the context of Categories 1 and 2. When we think about Scope 3, I think, on a related note, absolutely circle the wagons. Get all your stakeholders around this topic early, and that does include your assurance. So have some really good open conversations about what it is that they are expecting, both in terms of their disclosure and what it is that they're going to want to understand from you.”

In this episode of the “Driving Net Profit with Zero Emissions” podcast, we have the pleasure of speaking with Iress, a leading technology company that designs and develops software and services for the financial services industry.

Headquartered in Australia and listed on the ASX, Iress operates across Asia Pacific, the United Kingdom, Africa and North America. Its technology sits at the centre of its clients’ businesses, supporting a wide range of organisations - from small retail firms to large institutional players across the financial services industry.
In this episode, we explore Iress’ experience delivering its first climate disclosure report under Australia’s new mandatory reporting framework, AASB S2. Being among the first companies reporting under a new scheme is never easy. The rules are still evolving, there is limited precedent to rely on, and organisations often need to navigate complex judgement calls along the way.

Tune in to hear how Iress is:

    • Navigating its first AASB S2 climate disclosure report
    • Tackling the complexities of Scope 3 emissions reporting
    • Addressing data quality challenges across the value chain
    • Making judgement calls when guidance and precedents are still evolving
    • Building internal capability for mandatory climate reporting
    • Turning early reporting experiences into practical insights for future disclosures

  • Episode 24: From ambition to action: Local government commitments and strategies for net zero
    Dec 19 2024

“We have been monitoring the commitments of local governments in Australia since 2017. We've recently updated the ambitious commitments and found that, in total, 165 Councils out of 537 local governments in Australia have made commitments to net zero emissions. This number covers 31% of all councils. NSW takes the lead in terms of the absolute number of councils committing to ambitious targets. Followed closely by Victorian local governments. Looking solely at the number of councils committing to ambitious targets doesn't give the full picture. The more important metric is the fraction of the country's population that is covered by these commitments by councils, who are looking to lead the communities by example. 70% of Australia's population is now covered by ambitious commitments.”

In this special episode of “Driving Profit with Net Zero emissions” podcast, we're revisiting a recent webinar that we hosted— "From ambition to action: Local government commitments and strategies for net zero"

This year, local governments across Australia have made remarkable progress towards achieving net-zero targets. In this episode, we unpack findings from our latest research on Net Zero Commitments by States, Local Governments, and Communities and share practical strategies to help councils take the lead in climate action.

    In this episode, we cover:

    • State and local government climate commitments: Gain insights into the ambitious targets shaping Australia’s net-zero future.
    • Setting and communicating meaningful targets: Learn how councils can effectively engage their communities and align on climate goals.
    • Building credible transition plans: Discover best practices for developing actionable and impactful net-zero strategies.
    • Smplifying climate data management: See how tools like our C-Compass streamline reporting, enhance decision-making, and ensure transparency.
    • The next frontier for councils: Dive into transformative opportunities and strategies that empower councils to push boundaries in climate leadership and drive impactful, future-ready actions.
