  • DEMFC presents: THE LONG WALK
    Oct 31 2025

We've been busy during spooky season so we tried to sit down and relax and watch a fun little adaptation of a book we both enjoyed when we were younger, and what we got was a searing allegory for institutional rot, a metaphor for the futility of rebellion with a gun aimed at your head, the light that can emerge from even the most violent circumstances, and a film that definitely gets Mr. Beast hard.

The Long Walk is one of the best Stephen King adaptations ever made and is a quintessential movie of the moment.

  • DEMFC presents: HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG
    Oct 9 2025

If we've learned anything watching movies for 3 decades, it's that no one had it harder in the late 90's than any character Jennifer Connolly was playing. In the shocking conclusion to her "Standing on a Pier" trilogy, House of Sand and Fog, she is fighting for her family home and her dignity against Ben Kingsley in the best performance of his life.

We discuss the nature of parasitic bureaucracy, how it turns people against each other, the cultural misunderstandings that find us at each others throats, and the role human power plays in exacerbating those situations.

And as a bonus, we talk about how much Crash sucks.

  • DEMFC presents: THE MASTER
    Sep 17 2025

If there's anything Paul Thomas Anderson loves to make movies about, it's buds. Just a bunch of buds doing bud stuff, just a gaggle of guys being guys.

The Master is one of his best, a tale of two men unable to be honest with one another until it's truly too late while also serving as a rapturous examination of the damage living under mass delusion can do. Starring a cavalcade of people that would become the heirs to the heights of Hollywood and featuring perhaps both Joaquin Phoenix and the late great, sorely missed Philip Seymour Hoffman's greatest performances, The Master stands as a beautiful, brilliantly performed, surreally hilarious monument. Get processed.

  • DEMFC presents: PAIN&GAIN COMPLETE
    Aug 20 2025

We here at the DEMFC are doers. We believe in fitness. We believe in the American Dream. We believe in true stories even when they're clearly fictionalized to the point of parody.

We believe in Michael Bay's shockingly self aware, ever more relevant opus, Pain&Gain, a maniacal examination of the lengths people will go to in their quest to get a taste what they believe to be the better life, no matter how many body parts they have to barbecue in the process. We believe in Dwayne Johnson's ability to act.

We believe in putting unreleased material out into the universe when the moment calls for it.

  • DEMFC presents: INSOMNIA
    Aug 13 2025

    Podcasts are so important.

How could they be so f*cking fragile?

it's Part 3 of our deep dive into the year Robin Williams broke bad, and we've saved the best for last. Before Nolan became NOLAN, the last time Pacino was PACINO, there was the tightly wound thriller, Insomnia, a quintessential cat and mouse game where we answer the question, What if a Christopher Nolan movie had a well written female character?

Hey, thanks for coming on this journey with us.

  • DEMFC presents: ONE HOUR PHOTO
    Jul 29 2025

What is the highest desire of anyone living in the modern world? To be seen? To be loved? To be accepted? To craft the perfect life with the people we've exalted? What if those people aren't perfect? What if someone couldn't accept the shattering of that perfect image and sought to fix it at any cost, to create clarity through a queer kind of kintsugi?

In Part Two of our dive into 2002, the year Robin Williams challenged us to face the horror beneath his frivolous facade, we discuss Mark Romanek's One Hour Photo, a beautiful haunting portrait of a man unseen by the world until he forces them to.

    Episode edited by Austin Proctor

    Jul 16 2025

The story of a boy and his golden ticket and how it transports him to a magical land of*checks notes*horrifying violence, misogyny, and too many murders to count at the hands of an irresponsible man who spews too many one liners. Surprisingly, not Willy Wonka.
