    The Loveland Frogman legend is often told as one continuous story: frog-like creatures seen beside the Little Miami River in the nineteen fifties, then witnessed by police officers in nineteen seventy-two, then photographed again in twenty sixteen. The surviving record is more complicated.
    This episode follows restaurant worker Robert Hunnicutt, who reported three strange figures near Branch Hill in nineteen fifty-five and sought help from Loveland Police Chief John K. Fritz. It separates Hunnicutt’s account from a different report by a young Civil Defense volunteer who said he saw four small figures beneath a bridge. It then turns to patrolmen Ray Shockey and Mark Mathews, whose nineteen seventy-two reports helped create the modern Frogman image.
    The strongest evidence is not a specimen or a clear creature photograph. It is a chain of witness accounts, newspaper coverage, a witness-guided drawing, an artist’s conception, dark twenty sixteen images supplied by Sam Jacobs, and one major contradiction. A nineteen seventy-two newspaper said an animal shot by Mathews entered the river. In twenty sixteen, Mathews said he recovered it and identified it as a tailless iguana.

    In April 1977, three reported encounters on the back roads of Dover, Massachusetts, created one of New England’s most enduring cryptid cases. Within roughly twenty-five hours, teenagers Bill Bartlett, John Baxter, and Abby Brabham described a small, hairless or apparently hairless figure with an oversized head, thin limbs, long fingers, and reflective eyes. Bartlett’s drawing, made after a six-second glimpse from a moving Volkswagen on Farm Street, became the image most associated with the creature later called the Dover Demon.
    The case appears stronger than a single strange sighting. Baxter reported a second encounter near Miller Hill Road only hours later and made his own drawing. The following night, Brabham reported a similar roadside figure on Springdale Avenue while Will Taintor, driving the car, also saw an unusual tan form. Investigators Loren Coleman, Joseph Nyman, Ed Fogg, and Walter Webb interviewed witnesses and examined the sites soon afterward.
    But the evidence remains narrow. No photograph, track, sample, carcass, den, or confirmed repeat population was found. The detailed sightings were largely solitary, reconstructed distances and viewing times proved less certain than witnesses remembered, and the witnesses later disagreed over when they first exchanged stories and drawings.
    Was Dover visited by an unfamiliar living animal, perhaps an unusual or unrecognized creature moving through its wooded roads? Or did brief nighttime observations, ordinary wildlife, social contact, and later publicity turn several ambiguous experiences into one lasting image?

    In 2007, a Fresno homeowner publicly identified only as Jose reportedly saw something unusual on his home surveillance monitor after his dog began barking. The surviving image appears to show two pale, narrow forms moving across the camera view on long white lower sections, with little clearly visible above them.
    The image became the foundation of the Fresno Nightcrawler legend, but its strongest feature is also its greatest weakness. According to paranormal investigator Victor Camacho’s later account, Jose preserved the playback by filming his CCTV monitor with another camera because he believed the security system might overwrite or lose the relevant material. The original CCTV source is now unavailable or reportedly lost, leaving later viewers with a degraded recording of a monitor.
    Camacho interviewed Jose and his family, visited the Fresno property, and reported unsuccessful recreation attempts. In 2010, the Syfy television program Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files investigated the footage and left it unresolved after testing several broad practical recreation categories. A later video reportedly from the Yosemite Lakes Park/Coarsegold area appeared to show similar pale forms, though its provenance is much weaker.
    Practical effects and digital editing can create Nightcrawler-like imagery, but no public evidence identifies the actual method behind Jose’s recording, if a method was used. Did the camera capture an unknown physical entity, an ordinary object distorted by low-quality video, or a manufactured illusion whose source can no longer be examined?
