  • Debunking the Myths: Why Carbon Removal Can Scale with Klaus Lackner
    Sep 30 2026
In this Climate Chat episode, we interview climate scientist Klaus Lackner on the myths surrounding Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR, a.k.a, carbon capture) and how CDR can scale massively if the proper policies are put in place. Dr. Klaus Lackner is a former professor in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment and the founding director of the Center for Negative Carbon Emissions at Arizona State University. A pioneer in carbon management, Lackner was the first scientist to propose direct air capture—capturing carbon dioxide directly from the ambient atmosphere—as a viable tool to combat climate change. Trained in theoretical physics at the University of Heidelberg, his career spans positions at Los Alamos National Laboratory and Columbia University, where he directed the Lenfest Center for Sustainable Energy. Lackner's foundational research on mineral sequestration and moisture-swing sorbents led to the development of passive carbon capture technologies, such as "Mechanical Trees," which passively absorb CO2. • Is Solar-Geoengineering Too Risky? with Chris Parker
    Sep 20 2026
In this Climate Chat episode, we interview interview climate scientist Chris Parker about climate change risks and have a discussion on the risks of doing solar-geoengineering (a.k.a, Sunlight Reflection Methods or Solar Radiation Management (SRM)) vs. the risks of not doing it. Chris Parker is a climate scientist and hydrologist specialising in translating global and UK climate projection data into practical risk assessments for government, regulators, and infrastructure providers. He was formerly Climate and Data Lead for the UK's Fourth Climate Change Risk Assessment – Independent Assessment (CCRA4-IA) at the UK Climate Change Committee, where he authored the national climate framing and led the Climate Chapter of the 'Well-Adapted UK' report. Over a 14-year career spanning engineering consultancy and the CCC, he specializes in bottom-up, adaptation-focused approaches to assessing climate risk at local and regional scale.
