Dance and community: In this short episode Liz explains what a Ceroc Beginners Day actually is, why it is part of a nationwide Ceroc HQ initiative, and how these nights help brand new dancers step confidently into our dance community. She reflects on the recent Burton Beginners Day, where 62 people attended and many have continued dancing weekly, and shares why one evening can open the door to a much richer social life.

This episode is for anyone curious about Ceroc, anyone thinking about inviting a friend along, or anyone wondering what happens on a beginners night. It gives a clear picture of the atmosphere, the welcome, and the opportunities that follow once you start dancing.

Wyaston Village Hall is just outside Ashbourne, around 20 minutes from Derby via the A52, with a sprung wooden floor and plenty of free parking.

  • Dance and Community: 3 Ceroc Dance Venues One Community
    Feb 15 2026

    Send a text

The Ceroc dance community across Derby Ashbourne and Burton is shifting fast as our three class nights settle into their own rhythm. In this episode Liz and Mark talk through what has changed at each venue and why the vibe feels different while the structure stays the same. We share how the beginner room and warm up freestyle now work as the norm plus why dancers love joining the main floor together for class. We explain the Derby step up row for intermediate dancers and how it builds confidence without people feeling overwhelmed. We chat about Ashbourne’s unique small town feel and how it stayed strong through teacher and DJ changes and a venue move to Wyaston Village Hall with a sprung dance floor. We also share how Burton has grown quickly from Beginners Day into a class night with its own atmosphere supported by familiar faces and new crew. Wherever you are in your dance journey you are part of the Ceroc Inspire community and we would love to see you on the dance floor

  • What Expressive Dance means for our Community
    Feb 1 2026

    Send us a text

Dance community, expressive movement, and musical connection are the focus of this episode, as Liz and Mark are joined by Tor Khan to talk about Inspire and Evolve, a new workshop and tea dance experience created for dancers who want to deepen connection, musicality, and confidence on the dance floor.

Tor shares the thinking behind Inspire and Evolve, drawing on her background in expressive dance, blues, and musical interpretation. She explains how the two hour workshop focuses on fundamentals such as connection with your partner, the music, your body, and the floor, followed by a specific technique that dancers can immediately practise during the tea dance.

The conversation explores why this format supports real dancer development, how stand alone workshops still build growth over time, and why having space to practise with guidance makes such a difference. Tor also talks about music choice, emotional connection, respectful holds, and how expressive dance skills enhance both chill out and main room dancing.

This episode is ideal for Ceroc dancers who want to evolve their dancing, feel more confident, and strengthen their connection to the music, their partner, and the wider dance community.
