Are we created in the image of our human father or God our Father? Well, both. Often, we let our image of “father” shape our image of God. As we are adopted into God’s family, what could happen when we let our image of God shape our image of fatherhood?

What does it mean to be made in God’s image? As we see in Genesis 1, image-bearing is our first identity. But when we fail to view ourselves and others through that lens, things can go very wrong. Thankfully, with Jesus, we can imagine a world where people are free by God’s spirit to represent Him and bring flourishing to everyone around them.

We will always harvest what we plant, even in our friendships. When we show up for our friends and bring the fruit of the Spirit, we are preaching the gospel with our interactions. To become more like Jesus, how can we do the work of change with the help of the Spirit and some friends?

Friendship is hard work, but always worth the risk. We need the affirmation, support and truth that comes with meaningful friendship. As we see across Scripture, committed friends remind us of God’s love for us, by how they choose to be with us and for us. How can you be the kind of friend you’d like to find?

The grace you experience, you did nothing to deserve; God extends it freely to you. Just as Jonah discovered as he looked out at Nineveh, we also are invited to extend grace freely to others, even to “those people” whom you just don’t want to receive grace. Who is your “Nineveh” that you can extend grace toward because God first loved you?
