Is every day a battle you didn’t sign up for? You’re not failing. Your child isn’t broken. The approach just needs to change. The Attuned Spectrum Podcast is for parents navigating the complex, exhausting, and often isolating reality of raising a PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) autistic child — whether they’re five, fifteen, or twenty-five. Hosted by Chantal Hewitt — Family Autism Support Coach, experienced educator, late-diagnosed autistic, ADHD and PDA mum of three neurodivergent children including a PDA son — this is the podcast that meets you where you actually are. Not where you’re supposed to be. Here we move beyond behaviour management and into nervous system safety, low-demand parenting, and connection-first approaches that actually work. We cover school refusal, autistic meltdowns, co-regulation, PDA burnout, and the transition to adulthood that nobody prepares you for. If you’ve ever Googled “is it me?” at 11pm — this is your place. New episodes fortnightly. Follow so you never miss one.© 2026 © 2026 Attuned Spectrum: PDA & Autism Parenting Support Beziehungen Elternschaft & Familienleben
  • 3 Things Stopping Your PDA Child's Burnout Recovery (and what you must do instead)
    Sep 9 2026

This week, I'm getting really honest about PDA burnout — what it actually looks like for the whole family, and why so many of us end up in survival mode without realising how deep in we already are.

If you're waking up already behind, dreading the day before your feet hit the floor, and going to bed still replaying everything that happened — I promise you're not alone. I've been there, too. I have lived those 3am power struggles, the massive stress that wouldn't go away, the endless Googling at every hour, the immense anxiety leading up to school pick up, and the quiet fear that we'd never find our way out.

I'm also sharing the three things I see over and over again that stop families from moving through burnout sustainably.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Burnout doesn't happen overnight — and it doesn't leave overnight either
    • Low-demand parenting isn't the wrong approach. But there are three things that quietly undo it
    • Pulling back needs to be more than you think, for longer than feels comfortable
    • Getting excited by early progress and reintroducing things too quickly is one of the biggest setbacks I see
    • You cannot do this alone — community is one of the biggest game changers, not information
    • If you're at your rock bottom right now, that's the tipping point. It's not the end of the road

It isn't that low-demand parenting doesn't work — it does. But there are three specific ways I see families accidentally undoing their own progress, and I want to name them here so you can look out for them.

If this episode resonates, I've built a free webinar around exactly this — you'll find the details below.

  • I Got It Wrong About PDA Autistic Burnout: What Actually Got This Family Unstuck
    Sep 2 2026

We're diving into the heartfelt journey of Zara, a Raising PDA community member, who’s here to share her incredible transformation with her 8 - year old son, who recently faced PDA and Autistic burnout.

It’s a tough road, but Zara’s story shares hope and finding a way forward, reminding us that things can get better, with the right support and tools. She talks about the specific challenges they faced, the changes they made, and the support that helped them navigate their way out of autistic and PDA burnout.

Through her journey, she shares how she's learned that it’s okay to step back, to adjust her expectations, and most importantly, shows us how we can let our children lead their own recovery.

This episode is all about hope and the reminder that we are not alone on this journey, and that there is a way out of burnout (it just may take a different path than what you thought).

This is a conversation that will resonate with many parents of PDA, Autistic and neurodivergent children. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed or like you’re stuck in the trenches of burnout and school refusal, Zara’s experience is a reassuring light that shows you’re not alone.

    Takeaways:

    • It's essential to understand that every family's journey with neurodiversity is unique and personal.
    • What low demand in burnout actually looks like
    • Creating a supportive environment for your child can significantly help them through tough times.
    • Advocating for your child's needs is crucial; don't be afraid to push for what they require.
    • Taking breaks and slowing down can be beneficial for both parents and children during stressful periods.
    • Finding a community that understands your challenges can provide immense support and encouragement.
    • Remember, healing takes time; be patient with yourself and your child's progress.

  • Meltdowns and Mindset: How YOUR mindset can be your PDA kids biggest regulating tool
    Aug 26 2026

Your mindset is a game-changer when it comes to making lasting changes in how we parent our PDA, Autistic and neurodivergent child, teen or young adult.

In this episode, we dive into the importance of not just knowing the tools for low demand parenting, but really believing in them.

We talk about those after-school meltdowns and how they often stem from a whole day's worth of buildup rather than just one incident. It’s all about understanding the bigger picture—like sleep, fluctuating demand load, and even the week’s stressors—so we can better support our children when they need us the most.

Plus, I share some exciting news about an upcoming free webinar that’ll help you navigate this PDA parenting journey in a way that actually supports burnout in your PDAer and begins to bring easier mornings, evenings, routines, and after school transitions, into your home.

Ever feel like you’re stuck in a loop trying to figure out why your PDa, Autistic or Neurodivergent child is melting down? I know I have! And so many other parents I support do, too.

    Takeaways:

    • Mindset plays a huge role in sustainable parenting changes for your PDA, Autistic or neurodivergent child.
    • Recognizing the full context of a meltdown can help us respond with more empathy and understanding.
    • Low demand parenting isn't just a technique; it's about truly believing in the approach you're using.
    • Understanding your child's unique needs and history can significantly improve your parenting strategy.
    • We often forget that our own past influences how we parent today, so self-awareness is key.
    • Making shifts in parenting approaches takes time, so patience is essential for lasting change.
