A disturbing sexual assault allegation involving Cornell University students has sparked intense social media discourse over blame, accountability, and the character of those involved. But what if a much larger force is at play? The powerful, and potentially dangerous, influence of gender socialization, which can shape our behavior so deeply that the pressure to conform overrides our sense of self, personal boundaries, and individual judgment.

In this episode, we explore the often invisible forces that shape how young women and men navigate relationships, sexuality, power, and belonging. Why are women so often conditioned to be agreeable, seek male validation, and avoid confrontation? Why do some men bond through misogyny, sexual dominance, and anti-female tropes? And how can these deeply ingrained expectations influence behavior in situations where consent and personal responsibility are essential?

We also examine the role of fraternities, universities, social media, and increasingly aggressive sexual imagery in reinforcing harmful cultural norms. Rather than reducing this case to opposing sides, we consider the broader societal forces at work and what it might take to change them.
